I have a Sony KDL-40D3000 myself and like it a lot. I have seen some pretty sweet Samsungs at Futureshop lately too.
Between Samsung and Sony who is currently making the best quality LCDs? Regardless of price. |

I've kept regular pace on both Sammy and Sony stuff since I bought my XBR4, and I do have to give the edge to Sony, still. Both sets have their shortcomings, but I have observed a little more artifacting in the Sammys. Both manufacturer's LED backlit LCDs are quite impressive, though. All said, Sony still gets the overall nod for me.

I think it depends on the consumer preference and most importantly price. I have the Sony Bravia series and my friend have the Samsung A750 series. PQ wise, they look identical. BOTH are great LCD, just one has different function than the other. Price wise his samsung was $100 cheaper than my Sony, but I get a 2 year warranty

Sony all the way. Samsung has some very nice LCD's but in Sony I trust! I have never had one single problem with any Sony product I have ever bought and their customer service has always been freindly and very helpful. I have the Sony Bravia 46V4100 and its a fantastic HD tv that I know I will get many years of enjoyment out of. But it all boils down to is what you like and what you can afford. Both companies make excellent LCD tv's and you cant go wrong either way. But for me its Sony all they way.

If price weren't an issue, I would say Sony. I think they use the highest quality components and come up with the best pic. Recent reviews have called the XBR8 the best LCD ever, even rated higher than the sammy. For $2000 extra dollars though is where it gets hard to choose the Sony though. If I had no budget and wanted the best I would choose Sony all the way though without a second thought. Plus after working retail for 5 years and selling TV's I saw more Samsungs come back with problems than any other TV I had ever seen. I feel that they have sluggish components/software in their BD players and TV's

Personally I like the samsungs better, my 2 brothers have v series sonys and my buddy has a w series, my older brother comment that his picture didn't look as good as mine, and I agree, all of theirs tend to be a little smokier looking i guess I would say, BUT they do look really nice, just a little smokey..

Samsung keeps movign forward and it seems like sony either stays stagnant or in some cases goes backwards. the xbr6 is a total turd...i think i'd prefer an xbr4 personally. atrocious viewing angles and piss poor blacks put it behind just about every samsung lcd i've seen. I wouldnt even trade my near 3 yr old lns4696 for it, and that was samsungs first 1080p lcd.
I am however the happy owner of a kds55a3000 (55" 120hz SXRD) and love it! Sony just dropped the ball last year, I think they are rebounding...their newer sets seem to be improved a bit. |
