I asked my mother did she have Covid-19 before she died. She said to me that 'no, she had died of cancer'. I hope she is at peace now from her pain.
my condolences, the toughest part about this is not being able to say a proper good buy these days and be able to commiserate with fellow loved ones.

agree, these days iTunes seems to be in bigger "trouble" then CDs or LPs

for a first time in a long time physical (10%) has outsold digital (8%)

ps, sorry made a mistake, it was 2018 that physical barely surpassed digital for the first time in a while

I saw this poster (and I just watched a trailer) but I have no interest in the movie. Looks like a made for lifetime original to me.

Do you think everyone wants to watch everything?

I'll wait till it comes out on disc and then wait till I find a reason to watch it and then maybe a little more I'm in no hurry for this particular movie.

I had a closet avalanche yesterday with a 10ft section of wire shelving come out of the wall full of too many clothes and other crap. From start to finish including heading to Home Depot on a Saturday, it took me two hours. Sweating and cursing in a closet for that time is still more appealing than watching that movie.

That movie isn't noteworthy.

I do not care if Vudu gets any movie earlier. I will gladly wait for the disc. In case you haven't noticed, I have plenty to watch in the meantime.

Sorry to hear about your selves, I had that happen to me in Palm Desert, CA both in the garage and the closet. They were the old type wire selves with the V type bracket. Now they have the slot type brackets that are more solid and stable. Hope you got everything up and stored away.....No Movies on those selves huh?

That's if it comes out on Disc, but this is just the beginning where the Studios are testing the waters. There are costs to distributing content, and of course the Studios will go for the best Profit Margins.

I was seriously considering having one of those closet companies come out and redesign the whole thing, as I really don’t like the wire shelves. Figured I would get it back to a functional state so that maybe the thought of paying the money on a closet goes away, as I have a lot more fun ways to spend it in mind. And no, movies are not stored in my closet. Just some clothes that I never seem to wear, so a couple more bags are ready for Goodwill...some still with price tags on them or gifts I never wore.

If this is the type of movie that is going straight to streaming and not released on disc, then they may release a thousand more.

This is only happening because commercial theaters are closed or severely restricted due to the pandemic. Studios make more money by far from the box office than they do from digital distribution.

Digital distribution costs are enormous; despite what you think servers farms and the people and power to operate them are huge continual expenses. They do not run on pixie dust and moonbeams like you seem to think. All that internet bandwidth used by streaming services is continuous and costly also.

Studios like having multiple profitable revenue sources and thus why they distribute their movies so many different ways. If they only chose the most profitable method, the other methods would disappear. As has already been pointed out, neither physical media or streaming are among their most profitable revenue sources.

We are starting to see theaters getting ready to reopen in some states.
Quote:
Your next trip to the movies in West Virginia could involve you being ushered to your seat.

That’s one of the suggestions to help ensure that social distancing is properly followed when movie theaters reopen.

The guidance says they can reopen on Friday, June 5.

As far as a theater's occupancy, owners/operators have two options under the guidelines:

Limit facility occupancy to a maximum of 50 percent of capacity as dictated by seating capacity, or limit facility occupancy to a maximum capacity that will allow for proper social distancing to be achieved between patrons who do not reside together.

In order to achieve social distancing of 6 feet between all people who do not live together, it is suggested that schedules be altered to avoid “unnecessary interactions,” adjust layouts or restrict seating between customers to every other row, use assigned seating, or have an usher to seat groups.

Employees and customers can expect health screenings when entering the building.

More than two months after he opened a new drive-in theater designed to keep customers coming despite COVID-19 restrictions, Hayden Discount Cinema owner Mike Lehosit will open the doors of his indoor theater today

Hayden Discount Cinema is one of the many Idaho theaters and bars permitted to reopen today under Stage 3 of Gov. Brad Little’s “Idaho Rebounds” plan.
Quote:
Kansas City area movie theaters aim to reopen amid COVID-19.

In the past week, local governments have eased restrictions: Johnson County made its recommendations voluntary, for example. Kansas City and Jackson County will allow businesses to operate at 50% capacity.
Even in California they are moving to next phase for some counties.

Many Moviegoers Would Return to Theaters Within One Month of Reopening - Hollywood Reporter 5/26/20

Quote:
The new poll from Atom Tickets also found that spaced seating is the single most important concern for consumers, while just 6 percent care about temperature checks.

Many consumers would return to movie theaters within a month of cinemas reopening if there was a title they wanted to see, according to a new poll from Atom Tickets.

The survey of 1,500 people found that 25 percent would go to a cinema immediately and 34 percent within one month. Another 18 percent would do so within two months, making for a total of 77 percent.

Among the rest of respondents, 21 percent would wait for vaccine before seeing a movie on the big screen, while a scant 1 percent said they would never return to the multiplex.

The survey from the online ticketing company provided mostly good news for Hollywood and cinema chains who are hoping that theaters will be reopened en masse by early July. So far, Christoper Nolan's Tenet is sticking to its July 17 date, while Solstice Studios recently moved up the Russell Crowe road-rage thriller Unhinged to July 1 in hopes of giving theaters new product. (Unhinged also has the advantage of having no competition.)

Numerous polls in recent weeks have found that consumers would be more likely to return to cinemas if there was staggered seating and enhanced cleaning measures. Atom's survey, conducted the week of May 11, found much the same, with 42 percent saying that spaced seating is of paramount importance. That was followed by additional sanitary measures (21 percent), a requirement that guests and staff wear masks (14 percent), social distancing in lines and the lobby and temperature checks (6 percent).

Further, 88 percent of those surveyed would like to purchase digital tickets, so that they don't have to interact with theater staff. There also could be a shift to pre-ordering concessions (of those who have never done so, 61 percent say they now would).

Yes there are all kinds of costs and profits from the Movie Industry, but if we only concentrate on costs and profits on Movie Distribution then we could narrow it down. Theatrical Release comes out on top, but right now that is not happening. So now we have Streaming PVOD or Disc, and I have to think that PVOD is going to out preform Disc. Yes there are different cost, and like Vilya says Server Farms but that comes out of different pockets. To me Streaming is looking better and better!

Hollywood doesn't want to looses a significant chunk of its potential revenue by opting for a PVOD release any more against any major movie title. Trolls was heavily marketed already so PVOD was a attempt to not loose marketing momentum. Still $100 million rental receipts was very little compared to it predecessor.

I know there are streaming pundits like yourself that think because of covid 19 the industry is going play it safe and accept greatly reduced revenue with online PVOD, but its far easier for them to wait it out till you have a sizable amount of cinemas in 20 or more states to utilize. That is occurring in June.
