Could be a pretty good horror flick. I doubt they'd take it in that direction though. If they want the money, they'd have to go PG13.

Still, I've read a few good Venom stories. Key word being few.

The original "Venom" series was pretty decent for the first 10 issues, I remember that having a LE glow in the dark cover that was badass.

Ah, very true. Liked by a few. But it did turn a profit, which is what Hollywood is all about after all. Even if they stomp all over the source material.

+1 a R rated horror film direction would be great but thet are gonna tame it down so they can make lots of money off kids, and it wont turn out to good that way, horror direction is the wat to go on thos one, since one of the darker/scarier villians

Gary Ross is a screen writer for Spiderman 4 so the Venom Spinoff should be a little bit related to the film. I hope they choose a different actor to play venom. It would be awesome to see Sam Worthington play the role of eddie brock/venom.

The folks over at The Playlist have an interesting exclusive on a topic that’s been getting several headlines this week. According to their inside source, Gary Ross, the man who was just announced to write and possibly direct the Venom spinoff will not be working on that project next.

Instead, Ross will first be taking over the Matt Helm project from Steven Spielberg and it sounds like the Venom project is quite a ways off, despite earlier reports that had him starting on it after Spider-Man 4.

Matt Helm was a James Bond-esque franchise starring Dean Martin back in the 1960s and they’ve been trying to get a remake off the ground for a while with a messy development history in recent years. There was also a TV series in the 1970s also based on the novels written by Donald Hamilton. There are 27 books in the series, allowing for wide selection of material for the movie and possible sequels.

Who will star in the Matt Helm movie that’s hoped to spawn a new franchise? Well, after George Clooney passed and John Hamm fell through, it now sounds like Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) is the leading candidate. This role would certainly replace the missed opportunity of the growing star not getting cast as the lead in Green Lantern. With this role and The A-Team, Cooper could be one of the next big action stars.

If this all goes according to the reported plan, Venom won’t be around for a while, so how will Venom tie into the Spider-Man franchise?

Will it completely run its own course with no cross-over? I doubt it. The studio will want to use every available resource to make sure they bank as much coin as possible from the symbiotic anti-hero. Since the character of Venom has far less mass appeal than Spider-Man and since Gary Ross is involved in the scripts for both films, it’s fair to assume they will tie it into one of the Spider-Man films.

My guess is that since we know Spider-Man 5 & 6 are desired by Sony Pictures to speed into production after Spider-Man 4, and since Venom is not next up on Ross’ plate, perhaps the post-Spidey 4 interconnected films will act as a franchise reboot where they can have another chance at introducing the character, leading him into his own spin-off. After all, we reported yesterday that Raimi hinted that they’re not selecting Spider-Man 4 villains based on its previous movies or based on what spinoffs are in planning.

What do you make of news and how do you think Venom will fit into the Spider-Man world?

More as we hear it on all of these projects, at Screen Rant!

Sony Pictures Announces Spider-Man Spinoffs Venom and Sinister Six!
Quote:
In a move said "to forge a new legacy in the story of Peter Parker on screen," Sony Pictures Entertainment announced today that they will, in association with Marvel Entertainment, develop several new projects in the Spider-Man franchise, with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard to collaborate on overseeing the developing story over several films that will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.

The five writers, along with the two producers and Marc Webb, have formed a franchise brain trust to expand the universe for the brand and to develop a continuous tone and thread throughout the films. Under the deals, the studio announced that Kurtzman & Orci & Pinkner are writing the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which the studio hopes Webb will return to direct. That film will go into production next fall for release on June 10, 2016. In addition, the team will build on the cinematic foundation laid by Webb, Arad, and Tolmach in the first two movies. They will expand the franchise with Kurtzman & Orci & Solomon writing the screenplay for Venom, which Kurtzman will direct. Goddard, then, will write with an eye to direct, The Sinister Six, focusing on the villains in the franchise. Hannah Minghella and Rachel O’Connor will oversee the development and production of these films for the studio.

Sinister six most likely but it seems that a Venom solo movie will never get made according to past Venom updates in this thread.

God, get someone good to write it instead of those 2.

I am leary we will ever see a solo Vemon movie either but I am not sure I want to. You want to see him being the bad guy which makes him good against Spiderman. On his own, either they will try to make him a good guy or you get generic good guy #2 to fight him and neither are appealing.

Spiderman has to be featured in this movie.. I don't see how a solo villain movie would work without the main hero that fights him.. Watch Disney announce a Loki movie now that this just got announced

I'm beginning to think that superhero films are quite dead already. I have zero interest in this, and I'm a Marvel fan since '68 or so.

I didn't like IM3. Hated it, really.

Couldn't bring myself to pay to see Thor 2. Just doesn't look interesting enough; I'll wait for Netflix or cable.

A Venom film? Are these people on serious dope or what?!?
