Default Local Best Buys?

OK I see all these threads for Target and Wal Mart but nothing for Best Buy. We don't have Target up here either...

Anyway I got my PS3 at Best Buy the other day. They have even-sized BD/HDDVD racks next to each other. There was (I kid you not) not a single empty space in the HDDVD rack, and some of them actually did have dust on them, plus they had 30 or so copies of 300.

On the BD side it was about half empty, no 300's at all although a big space where they would have been (in the T's rather than the 3's for some reason).

I also bought their second-last PS3, the only BD player they had left was an old Sony S-1 or whatever it was called... Big pile of Toshiba X-A2's though.

So it looks like this store is doing well for Blu-ray... they also have those shelves on the end with HDDVD tucked away in the middle of a row.

You should tell the manager that he needs to reorder/restock Blu-ray players and discs.

I recently visited my Best Buy to see how they were managing the Blu-ray and HDDVD situation. They have approximately the same shelf space and they even have an HD DVD player on display as they do Blu-ray. Some time ago it was only Blu-ray on display but it seems like HDDVD now has their own. I also happened to stop by Target and noticed that they have 4 columns for Blu-ray and only 2 for HD DVD. Either way, these places are extremely overpriced when it comes to next gen movies.

I have unfortunately not seen any favortisim in any of the Best Buys that are around here...

Both of the shelves look about equally sized, and equally stocked...

However, there is always a Bluray end cap on display though. That is not always the case with HD-DVD, I think that is a very good thing...

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that HDDVD *did* have an endcap.. however it wasn't advertised, just sitting there with a TV showing something (I forget what but it was a movie not a HDDVD demo with ads)... it was a kinda crappy TV too, everyone was checking out the nice one right next to it instead.

Each Best buy is going to be different in how they display end caps. Movies for the most part I have seen an equal stock of both formats.

Of the 6 or so best buys I visit in my area they display Blu-ray and HD-DVD differently in each store.

Nice, good to hear. My Best Buy is dead even. Cant really tell which sales better although I would give a slight ever so slight tip to blu ray. If there is any at all. My Circuit City on the other hand has about 4 times the Blu Ray gear as compared to HD DVD.

I work at best buy and everyone that works w/ me knows blu ray is the way to go as well as the entire company. We all reccommend blu ray over HD DVD I have yet to sell and HD DVD player and once in a blue moon do I see people even buy them. Too bad Best Buy can't be like Target and sell only Blu Ray players.

Oh yeah. Went to BB yesterday, Blu-ray racks were rifled, HD DVD were, as you say, dusty! LOL!

Several BDs that I would have purchased were sold out(go figure, huh?).

S.F. Bay Area, East Bay, Pinole BestBuy.

About the same here. Equal space for both media and player , with end-cap demo for each. There is a separate free-standing shelf for blu, and none for HD-DVD. The selection for blu ebbs and flows--HD doesn't seem to move as much. When I bought my stand alone player recently, the sales woman said that I had made the right choice and that they were selling far more blu players than HD.

The best buy that I work at has equal shelf space for both formats in line
Hd-dvd has an endcap with movies on it
as for displays
We have a total of 5 blu-ray players on display, 6 if you count magnolia
2 playing planet earth
1 sony display playing their demo disc
and 2 others can't remember what they are playing

whereas we only have 1 display for hddvd

as for favoritism or just being smart....when 300 came out...our initial shipments had about equal quantities of Blu and HDdvd...the blu sold in a day...whereas the hddvd didn't sell out till about thurs/fri....we got a second shipment of about 70-80 in blu-ray...while we only had 5 hddvd on order after they sold out

My local bestbuy has one rack for each blu and hd-dvd...and where they sell the players they each have some titles.

both seem to be fairly in stock...and I never really see ANYONE looking at them when I go in. Only me. (then again, I live in Lynchburg VA former home to rev. jerry fallwell!) so I dont think HD has caught on too quick here...

ALTHOUGH... I picked up Disturbia on bluray and was checking out, and the check out guy said "yeah I have that on bluray too...for my PS3".
