It was fine when I got it I think... but over time it's getting worse. When I re-play the scene it plays fine, but then 15 minutes later there is another drop-out. Weird. The discs play fine on my other players.
I haven't had any issues on mine. you have the latest firmware?

Could also be a handshake issue. I would check to make sure your HDMI is snug on both ends.

HDMI CEC is known to cause handshake farts. It may also be a bad cable.

Unfortunately don't you need HDMI CEC enabled for ARC currently? Only the latest HMDI revision allows for ARC without CEC unless I'm mistaken, and older equipment doesn't support it.

I have no ARC/eARC TVs or A/V hardware, so I can't say, though I don't think CEC is really useful for players at this point and that's where a lot of the hiccups occur. CEC on players is used for things like automatic video signal output configuration, remote control functionality through another remote instead of the player remote, and simple on/off commands. Disabling it on the player should not - on paper - affect eARC or ARC functionality, as ARC and eARC are not incorporated into a disc player.

Yes, it's got the latest firmware and it did play fine initially. Just the last week or so. The HDMI cable is in place and I've taken it out and put it back in again. It's a decent quality 4k capable cable from Chord I think. The discs I had issues with played perfectly on my other players. Weird.

Anybody have experience using a lens cleaner for their player? I'm wondering if the lens could be dirty, which could account for my player having so much trouble playing discs compared to my XBox. I've also heard they could damage the laser so I have no idea.

I use a CD lens cleaner once a month on every single players in my house as a preemptive move.

From what I've read in the past, CD lens cleaners are not ideal for blu-ray players, as there are differences with the laser alignment. That's why they have blu-ray lens cleaning discs.

Has anyone had the Dolby Vision notification reappear on a layer transition? About 50ish minutes or so into Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Extended Edition Disc One (what a mouthful) I noticed the Dolby Vision notification and Dolby Atmos one both re-appear, almost as if it had lost connection momentarily. I didn't notice any stutter, and when I rewound slightly and played it again it didn't reoccur. First glitch of any note I've had on the 820.

The player doesn't automatically notify Vision or Atmos in the GUI, does it? Are those being flashed up by your TV when it detects those things? But yeah, sounds like it lost connection for a fraction of second.

PS

You could've just said ROTK:EE on UHD and most would've know what ye were talking aboot.

Ah it could be my TV. First TV I've had that has supported Dolby Vision, I just assumed it was coming from the player.

Hopefully nothing to worry about, the remainder of the film played back without issue.

No worries. The Panny has no indicators that I've yet seen, and bear in mind that a player cannot actually detect Atmos anyway, if you go into the info screen on the 820 it'll just show Dolby TrueHD 7.1 because it can only decode the TrueHD 'core', the Atmos metadata is riding piggyback on the bitstreamed signal and is ignored by the player, only the audio device that decodes Atmos can "see" it (I'm assuming you've got Atmos on the TV or on a soundbar/AVR that you're passing the 820's HDMI through? If the latter then the logos could be coming from that device). Zis is perfektly normal.

The OPPO has on-screen indicators for Dobly Vision and HDR10 though, and my TV has a Dobly indicator too.

Is the front flip-down panel on the 420 supposed to flip back up after the tray closes? It doesn't on my 420 and it doesn't on my Panasonic region A blu-ray player either. They both stay flipped down unless I manually flip it back up. But my Panasonic region B player that looks almost identical to my region A does flip back up automatically. It's almost like the front panels are getting stuck.

Yes, my receiver (Pioneer VSX534) can support Atmos, but I only have a 5.1 speaker setup so it will just be folding it down.

Do you connect the HDMI from the player to the AVR, then the AVR to the TV?

It doesn't come down all the way it should stay rested on the tray, so when that goes back in it raises closed. If it's dropped flat, then I'd assume something is wrong.
