Should I have my DVDs set to play back at 24 frames per second? Or just for blu-ray and 4k blu-ray content?

Holy shit, the amount of auto-DNR applied by this player in the default video mode is incredibly high. If you're using this player and haven't done so, make absolutely sure to set the video mode to DIRECT from the options menu while playing a disc.

Yeah... It's horrendous, seriously a headscratcher how come this kind of setting is available on a player, let alone be the default option. I swore at first I got a defective unit until I figured out this was the case. In addition to the auto-detecting Dolby Vision, another thing that these Sony players need is to just remove all those video options and force Direct at all times. Can't see why anyone would need anything else.

I have the X-700 player, but I could not figure from Setup where to navigate to, step-by-step to get to the area to change from Default Video Mode to Direct Mode. Would you kindly give me that guide? |

Hit the options button while the disc is playing and go to video settings.

I hate the remote for this player.
It’s tiny and the buttons are really hard to get right unless you’re staring straight at it while pressing them. I like to lay back and use muscle memory. ...I can’t do that with this remote. |

I wanted to watch the Arrow Region B The Thing blu-ray last night, and the bloody disc wouldn't load. At first, I thought my player was broken or something, but another disc played just fine. It wasn't until I changed the region settings on the remote that the disc finally loaded. Anyone else had a similar issue? I found it odd because on my old Sony blu-ray player (and the one before that, too, I believe) whenever I played a region-locked disc, the disc would load, but I'd get the screen warning telling me the disc was region-locked.

Do you have an older Sony BD remote? Because they're pretty much universally interchangeable.

I have most of them memorized but a back light button would've been nice to have.

Cigar/sausage fingers don't work on this remote, you need to have dainty/needle like fingers to work it.

It's a pain but after playing a DV encoded disc you should manually turn it off then next time you play a DV disc turn it on manually again. |
