Disney The Lone Ranger (2013) Never in 3D

Hey, I use Lovefilm in the UK and I was looking at the "coming soon" section and I found a listing for The Lone Ranger 3D Blu-ray, release date is 2 Dec 2013... could it be a mistake or are the rumours of a 3D version dropped by Disney for the theatrical release true?

Good question 3D4ever,

Unfortunately, Disney decided a long time ago to not release the film in 3D, so no conversion was done despite the rumors heard. Once the theatrical release passed and underperformed according to Disney's overestimated and unrealistic expectations (considering most western movies don't do that great at the box office these days), a 3D version listing is no doubt a mistake by those listing it. I wonder where they got that information and does it show any box art with the 3D logo on it?

The movie was interesting and Depp did a respectable job even if the critics say he regurgitates the same style character (like most film stars out there playing the same style in every role, as good as they are and really, nothing wrong with doing that IMO), my biggest disappointment besides the
[Show spoiler]lack of more action, would be The Lone Ranger being a clumsy second hand character and not the hero we may have expected from the past, until the very last scene, but by then... On the other hand, there are many people who thought this was well done.
I would have seriously called it Tonto and the Lone Ranger so more people would know Tonto, played by Depp, had the reigns and the major role and that the Lone Ranger would be in the secondary role.

There's no artwork, no... but I remember reading about a trailer for the movie that was in 3D on AICN a few months ago... it would be awesome if Disney released a 3D version, however I agree it's unlikely!

There was a short lived rumor here as well that at the end of the 2D trailer, a 3D logo appeared, but it was actually the words "July 3rd" for the release date, which showed so quickly it could be easily mistaken for 3D.

But you're right, it likely won't happen unless by some miracle they had a secret commissioned conversion they never talked about or bailed out on.

While watching the movie, I kept thinking how alot of scenes would look great in 3D. Infact...it seemed like many scenes had 3D in mind. Sadly though, I was unimpressed with The Lone Ranger. Only made it through halfway through the film. Just couldn't hold my attention. Too bad really! Was really wanting to like this one. If a 3D copy was available, i'm sure that would make me give the movie a second chance.

Why did Disney not release the film on 3D blu ray. I was looking forward to it & would have paid 27.00 for it new. I don't go to the theaters anymore because I always buy the movies anyway & things get expensive ( I cant watch a movie at the theater without popcorn ) Can anyone explain this to me?

Honestly, I think Disney realized at some point that no matter what, they were going to be taking a bath on The Lone Ranger, and they weren't about to take even more of a loss by doing a 3D conversion as well.

Default Lone Ranger 3D

I have read all of the posts about Disney not releasing the Lone Ranger in 3D and I don't get it. It was released in 3D theatrically. I know - I saw it. It was not released in 3D bluray after the theatrical release possibly due to the poor theatrical performance.

This film was not released in 3D theatrically anywhere. This has been proven. It was not filmed in 3D and it has not been converted to 3D.

I have no proof of this but I would be surprised if the director liked 3d. Despite his background in visual effects he does seem to be a film is king Nolan type.

I believe this is true. His previous film, Rango, was the only computer animated movie released in its time that wasn't 3D.

I wish this movie was released in 3D. It has some shots that scream "burst out of the screen 3D conversion". I think it was unfairly over criticized.

Hi, I actually saw this in 3D at a cibema in the UK and thought it was incredibly impressive especial the train scenes in the finale. What let the film down was a bit of lack of pace in sone parts especially the beginning plus the character of the Lone Ranger was too hammed uo for my taste. However, I can confirm it was released in tje UK at least in a 3D version. I am rather disapointed there doesn't seem to be a Blu Ray 3D version. Now that home 3D TVs are not being manufactured by some of the big companies it probablt will never be. I was lucky to purchase a huge KG 3D OLED screen just before they were stopped being made.

This movie was not shot in or converted to 3D, there is no 3D version. I live in the UK and saw it theatrically, it received no 3D theatrical release.

Yeah, the movie definitely had slow parts and the Lone Ranger being the follower instead of the leader was strange.
Interesting. What theater did you attend?
As far as no 3DTVs being made, there are still affordable 3D blu ray movie projectors available these days, $350 and up as great alternatives.

Has anyone checked through the end titles for stereographer and conversion credits?
