United Kingdom The Eight Hundred

I see The Eight Hundred releases in the UK next Monday (March 22nd), and in Germany on April 22nd, but while the usual theatrical ratio is 2.35:1, it was slightly opened up to 2.11:1 in IMAX and looked absolutely phenomenal. Does anyone have confirmation that it's the 2.35:1 ratio that's on the Blu-ray and not the IMAX ratio, please?

I'd definitely get it if it was the IMAX ratio. That said, I'd love it if it was the uncut version of around 160 mins, rather than the theatrical 149 mins.

I doubt we'll ever see the 160-minute version as long as the CCP is in power.

All the UK pre orders i can find for this seem to indicate it is being released on 12th April.

Wish they’d release the Ting Shan-hsi 70s version. I must have worn out the VHS as a nipper.

is avaible on Bluray in Germany in this package:

https://www.amazon.de/800-Steelbook-...dp/B08NF1PSP9/

no mention anywhere, but it's the whole Disc 2. (it has English Subtitles for the 1975 film / Taiwan Version)

Ooh, I may have to grab that! Shame it’s the shorter version but I’m fairly sure that’s the edit we had on VHS over here anyway.

Looks like it's now 12th April, unless it always was and I've been on the red wine too much.

Anyone know about the aspect ratio, though, please?

(and how was my post edited by a moderator? Comparing the two, there doesn't seem to be any changes anyway. I am confused.dom)

Does anyone with the German release know if the film has English Subtitles or is it just for the bonus film on the Steelbook? Amazon has no interest in shipping this to Ireland and not seeing it anywhere else so going to go with the German release if it has subtitles.

The main film just has German subs. The bonus film has German subs too but you can play the “Taiwanese” version as an extra which does play with English subs.

I have two questions:

Is this 1080p/24? The Hong Kong release used a 25fps source.

And most importantly, is this region free?

Just tested the disc on my Sony X700 and I can confirm this is in 1080p/24fps.
Cannot confirm the region at the moment.
Flip to the chapters quickly to get a feel for the picture and my god, the picture is brutal. This is going to be a feast when watched on the projector.

I actually asked Cineasia themselves and they replied rather quickly, unfortunately for me it's region B locked.

Thanks anyways.

The movie issues soon in France, the studio is"Lonesome Bear"which exists since 2017 but curiously not in the list.

I have asked to add it in order to complete informations,I'm waiting now an answer.

The movie seems very interesting,I like historical movies.

Gone from Amazon, Base and other retailers, so pick this up from HMV now before you miss your chance.

Based on DVDFever’s review alluded to in the initial post, this disc is pretty light on extras but considering it’s a £4.49 rental and a £9.99 purchase on Prime Video, it makes sense to spend a couple of quid more (or a couple of quid less) to physically own it when it’s bound to be better quality is good for £7.99.

Hardly surprising as it had a limited print run of 2000 units.

The extras may be light, but they are well worth watching. Epic doesn't do the production justice.

You can never tell with LEs, though. Sometimes they stick around for several years, or are gone a week after release.

I guess there are a few reasons for this being a fast seller - being one of the first titles from Cine Asia after more than two year’s hiatus (not at their height of the DVD era), the epic scale of the film, a pandemic/lockdown release where there are less new release films on disc to choose from, and the greater visibility after the film was pulled in 2019 when it was about to be screened (it’s how I found out about the film from those headlines), to then be reworked/censored under the CCP.

I’m guessing this is an outlier for Cine Asia in being limited and their other new releases e.g. The Swordsman won’t be limited?

I think the main draw was the huge price drop within a month of it being released.

The Swordsman is also limited IIRC. Edit: Sorry, it isn't. 'Alternative artwork' I think for the DVD. Who knows...

I can't imagine Vanguard ever selling out

Glad I picked this up from HMV Norwich for £7.99. Haven't watched it yet though.

Yes, I was going to quote your post about Norwich having a copy but I wasn’t sure which thread it was in.

I was going to go back and pick up Short Circuit 2 (been a long time since I watched it on TV) but they seem to have sold it now so guess I’ll have to order it online instead.

I actually did a whole list of recent films I wouldn’t mind picking up on disc, but I’ll probably end up cutting it down.
