The audio quality mix isn’t as good as Golds/Plats. There isn’t an “off” button like the Plats to turn on/off 3D. So you just have to make sure you do that in System Settings under Audio Output.

Low end or bass isn’t as punchy as Golds/Plats Probably because they don’t have VSS.
That's what I was afraid of. It's too new. I really wish MadCatz (as it then was) didn't go under because the next set up from the 7.1 HD Katanas had 4K passthrough.

So would I still be able to change the audio settings in Uncharted to 7.1, if I had the Pulse connected? I know it's a stupid question, but I dunno whether to bite on any new 'phones just yet, and if so, something reasonably priced, I am looking at getting that stupid-ass expensive Dolby Atmos/DTS X JVC Exofield XP-EXT1 headphone system, but not for a long long time.

So I'm thinking of the Golds or the Plats as I listen to music and stuff as well as watching Blu-ray movies.

Amazon's got the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 for £110 as part of Prime Day while the SteelSeries 7P is £160. There's a few to choose from, but perhaps maybe it would be wise to wait, there'll be more down the line.

Binary Audio has been around for over 100 years.
3D, Dolby, Dts are just “buzz” words to profit.

Your best option with regards to PS5 is the Sony Platinum Headset. You can pick your poison. 3D or other codecs.

It supports all.

Thanks, I've been looking at those, as well, and there seems to be a general consensus with the Platinums, which look to be the best investment.

If you do decide to get the Plats, 1 recommendation.

Don’t fold them. I’m on my second pair. I folded the first pair everytime I didn’t have them in use. One day I took them out from my shelf, unfolded them & as soon as I applied a tiny bit of pressure to fit them on my head, the right ear cup snapped off.

Also a benefit from the Plats is they use 50mm drivers & the Battery lasts 3-4 hours longer than all other PlayStation headsets.

Brilliant stuff. I can still get them new from Argos or Currys PC World. I'm going to go for the Plats. How are they with Blu-ray movies?

They get the job done.

If you have a PS4, you can calibrate them. You have 2 profile slots 1 & 2.
1 is Sony’s Default value, 2 applies a bit more LFE & is also pre-calibrated. Depending on the content you watch or listen too, I’d recommend profile 2 (slot 2) as your default. You have 1 Button on the right ear cup for turning on VSS/3D. I’d have this on if your content is more than 2 channel. I have that setting on practically all the time.

What eats away at battery life isn’t really the volume level, It’s when you make use of the built in mic. So for movie watching, disc or stream, they can last 8 hours + easy on a single charge.

They are heavier than most gaming headsets but thanks to the 50mm drivers, the earcups need to be larger. This helps with ear fatigue but I find beyond 6ish hours, I feel the need to take a break from them.

If you handle the headset with care you’ll be alright. Don’t let the durability fool you though as it did me with my first pair. The only con I’d give the Headset is the foldable hinge on each side. My first pair probably wouldn’t have broken if it didn’t have the hinges.

Anybody have experience with any mid to high end wired headphones they've managed to use with PS5 with solid sound?

I may end up buying the PS5 official headset later but wireless isn't something i prefer due to longer sessions. Currently using a Hyper X Cloud 2 with the PlayStation Silver wired headsets USB dongle. Works a treat mostly.

There are actually quite a wide range of wired mid-high end Cans out there. I did look into a few of them but most that I saw which looked good ranged $800ish+
You’re better off sticking with the Hyper X cans if you are already satisfied with them. If not, you know my Answer is Sennheiser.

Speaking of Sennheiser.

Yeah, they're good but i feel like it's become harder to try and control headset features like party chat to game volume using the PS5 unlike how it allowed volume adjustment on the PS4 part chat.

I also feel like there's a tinny crackling at times on the headset with certain ranges possibly due to not having enough juice to the headset or perhaps because the drivers have been busted by over exposure to the really loud noises at times.

I'm sticking with them though because they're still 95% there for me in terms of performance and haven't got anything better but i love the idea of getting an official 3D audio supported wired headset if Sony do one again for PS5.

If I go & press the PS button (pop-up) & go to Sound, it shows a slider for game/chat volume. It is greyed out though because I’m using Sony’s wireless Plat.

I think that option applies to your Cloud 2 Headset doesn’t?

Instead of on the actual headset or does your Cloud 2 have Physical Chat/game button/slider & does that work?or are you stuck with using the Sony UI for adjustments?

I’d pony up for BT. It’s definitely not the best AQ as I said in my link above but it is the “most” supported type of headset on the market & they do indeed have twice the battery life as my preferred RF headsets. Unless the brand is Sony. lol

The button is greyed out for me too. Honestly, i'm very satisfied overall with the quality. I guess it's just that niggle on me because technically its not a 3D audio headset that's officially supported but doesn't seem like it's been a huge disadvantage and devs are also still yet to fully leverage it. Plus, Warzone just has some of the worst and poorest audio mix around.

Well if you play a 3D “Audio” Game wired with the DualSense & you have 3D Audio enabled in PS5’s Settings, than it doesn’t matter what Headset you have.

Sony has only calibrated the Pulse specifically for tempest. You really have to do side by side comparisons (Plat/Gold/Pulse) to appreciate the fact they (Pulse) are indeed more accurate in 3D than the more expensive Platinum Headset. The Gold Headset works with PS5 too. I tested all & only under circumstances where the game & Headset worked with Tempest did I find that the Pulse edges out the Plats. It’s very, very, very, minor though & you have to know what you’re listening for.

Warzone probably doesn’t support 3D. I never tried the audio there but that is a shame not because it doesn’t have 3D but because Activision is too lazy to implement it. Any “PS4” game can be updated to have 3D Audio.
A competitive “Advantage” would probably be their PR team’s response if asked why isn’t there 3D Audio in Warzone?

I've packed the PS4 away, there ain't room for both sadly, but I'd assume the VSS/3D button would still work without the calibration available to the PS4?

Have had around 6 hours with the RS 175 Sennheiser’s now.

Good news is they work, form factor is near identical to 185’s.

Bad news is they are unfortunately not as good sounding as the RS 185’s. Even with the 2 features the 185’s didn’t have like Bass Boost & Surround Modes the 175’s have.

I’ll never get that “perfect” sound experience ever again unless I pay A LOT for another Sennheiser HDR 185 set from aftermarket sellers.

Sorry to hear that Derb. I know out of everybody you're truly a person who put their money where their ears are

I'm glad you still had a backup even if it doesn't quite hit the same level of experience. I suppose it's a shame they went out of business but them the breaks i guess.

lol

Was always seeking something that sounded better than the 185’s with both comfort & batt life to match. Dozens of other headsets later, no Dice.

Sennheiser headsets give you 0 Warning when they are about to expire.
Power supply - Still Good
Optical Cable - Still Good
Base/Receiver Still Good
Headset - Nothing broken.

So my best guess is the built-in antenna inside the headset which you can’t access or see is what ultimately breaks down over a long period of time.

I’ve made up my mind about my next Headset purchase though.
It will be Bluetooth & it will be a Sennheiser brand. Now that my new TV supports BT without adaptors natively. I regret buying the AudioTehnica BT Set.

the Arctis 9 will a replacement for the Golds
Have heard people having issues with the XM4’s while connecting to their Samsung TVs.

They supposedly support High-Res Audio over Bluetooth which is something few headsets can do. Sony built their own Codec for this Headset.

Anywhoo, how do you like them so far?

I picked them up on sale to replace my Audio Technica BT headphones. They were almost triple the price.

Am hoping they get better Audio quality than AT headphones while connected directly to my Sony 900H TV which supports BT headphones.

I wanted a headset with good battery life & no fuss about PS5 connections.
