I get where you're coming from-but he was still trying to kill his family in H6, namely Jamie and his great nephew Stephen. And Kara and Tim are Laurie's cousins, Debra and John are Laurie's aunt and uncle. So, essentially they're extended family. And I think most people prefer when Michael kills random peeps anyway.

Michael wasn't "in" the cult-the cult worshiped him since he was pure evil who was given the curse of Thorn. You never see him in one of those black robes. And we never see Michael rape Jamie. She says "Uncle Michael, please don't hurt me." Wynn or another cult member could have raped her. I can understand her saying this. His presence while she's bound and defenseless would leave her pleading not to harm her.

I've read an interview w/Dan Farrands where said in the P-Cut when Kara says to Michael, "The baby is yours", his intention was the baby is a dedication to Michael and "his to kill to eliminate his bloodline." But I see why some interpret Michael impregnated Jamie. It's sloppily edited.

But it wasn't H20 that saved the franchise from direct to video. It was the fact that Jamie Lee Curtis returned to the franchise after 17 years and swearing off horror movies. Plus it was the 20th anniversary of the original Halloween. Akkad and Miramax realized the potential for huge profits and the hype machine was in full swing. Fans turned out in droves to have the chance to see Curtis in another Halloween movie and go up against Michael one "last" time.

Curtis returning to her signature role, the 20th anniversary and clever marketing propelled the movie to make significant money, not the fact that it's a good film in any way.

But I get that a lot of fans like it. Personally I feel it had A LOT of potential but missed the mark on so many levels. I'd still buy the 4K though for first 20 minutes. And to this day I still have the 4' x 6' original vinyl movie banner that hung in the theater where I knew the manager.

Halloween H20 is a fine film, but everything about it is peak late 90s and it’s one of the most dated entries imo.

However, it is in DESPERATE need of a fresh scan.

I'm pretty sure this applies to all the Miramax films. H6 has dust and debris here and there and the theatrical cut's transfer doesn't look as clear as the producer's cut. I would love a branching or separate disc release of H6 (doesn't have to even be 4K, I'm personally fine with 2K) with the same scan being the base for both producer's and theatrical cut.

H20 is only a tiny step above DVD and half of it's blu ray releases are in the wrong aspect ratio.

Resurrection would probably see the least benefits with a new transfer since a lot of the webcam footage can only go so far in terms of quality.

Agreed, the theatrical cut of H6, H20 and Resurrection are all badly in need of new scans. Echo Bridge did a huge disservice to the fans of these movies with their initial blu-ray releases.

And unfortunately Shout used the same masters. While the picture quality is slightly improved and H20 is presented in the correct aspect ratio, there's a lot of room for improvement.

I hope Shout can license them and scan the OCNs for a 4K release.

I don’t know man, I went to the theaters 3 times to see H20 all 3 times the theaters were packed and people were clapping and cheering. People were groaning when part 6 ended and the theatre wasn’t close to sold out on opening night.

This is why I love the Halloween series though. There’s a pick your own story thing you can do for people’s different tastes. I love doing a 1,2 4 marathon or 1,2 H20.

I do the extreme timeline and watch RZH2 as a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s Halloween.

Yeah I think the theatrical cut also implies that Dr. Wynn and his cult were just fascinated by Michael's evil and were experimenting on... something. Which then explains why Michael just randomly kills them during the operation scene without having killed the baby (his final relative) first. Dr Wynn says to Dr. Loomis "You were the first one to see it. You recognised its power. Evil. Pure, uncorrupted, ancient. I have my plans for this baby. Jamie's baby, will be the dawn of a new age". But it was not made clear on what they were really trying to do with the baby. The producer's cut does make Michael seem more weak by showing Michael getting pulled into the van in 1989, and just standing there as the cult makes the ritual or the very anticlimactic ending where Tommy uses "the power of the runes" to stop him. The theatrical cut instead features the more brutal side of him with the ending and reshoot death scenes.

My theater was packed too. Again, I think of Curtis and Michael facing off again in nearly 20 years drew the crowds. I saw H20 TWICE in theaters because I wanted to like it so badly.

At my first screening (opening weekend) the theater handed out a survey and pencils to answer about 5 questions. I don't know why. It wasn't a test screening. But they invited anyone who was interested to stick around while they reviewed the results and announced how it scored. A couple of my buddies and I hung out even though we disliked the movie immensely. My other buddy said he wouldn't waste his time taking the survey-that it was bad enough he wasted 90 minutes watching it.

57% of people said it wasn't as good as the previous sequels. The survey wasn't specific to any sequel-just all of them in general. 63% said they wouldn't recommend it to family/friends.

But yeah, it was a big hit and I'm glad 'cause it renewed interest in the franchise.

Only in the P-Cut. And at that it was against his will. The Man in Black forced it with his mind control.

But the T-Cut is totally different with no incest and no mind control. And I greatly prefer the T-Cut.

(Both are a long way from the original, but I still dig it)

Yes I love 2018, my favorite sequel besides part 4. Man if part 4 used the original mask it would have been even better.

Oh God no. Bland, boring, dull, cringeworthy, total lack of suspense, total lack of atmosphere, and an absolutely ridiculous portrayal of Laurie Strode..... I hate it.

I will go to see Kills in the theater because I haven't missed a Halloween movie in theaters since my first Halloween experience (H20) and I refuse to break the streak now.

But any marathons I do will be H1, HII, HIII, H4, H5, H6. (H20, maybe, if I'm in the mood) but the rest can go in the garbage disposal for all I care.

I groaned when H20 ended. I HATE H20's ending.

It seems like 99% of people love it, but not me. I hated it then and I hate it now.

Cant wait for the new trilogy to finish, then I can enjoy a complete Halloween epic. No Micheal crying, or Micheal being controlled by a cult

In the theatrical cut he pretended to be controlled by them. After a while he got sick of them and slaughtered them because… well, because he felt like it. Just like how he waited fifteen years in the original before he felt like escaping and murdering people. It’s not ideal but it’s better than “We’ve given him the power, the gift of Thorn, “The power of the runes stopped him,” and turning him into Uncle Dad.

Yeah 4 is great. The mask doesn't bother me too much. I'm really looking forward to H:Kills.

Thanks for the debate on H6 and H20. I enjoyed your analysis of H6 and your comments to back up your opinion of why you dislike it so much.

Glad you enjoy H20 as much as you do and hope it gets an awesome 4K release soon. The film never had a good video presentation on blu-ray.
