Talking about the real mono audio, we had a Blu-ray release here in Germany in February 2019 which states on the back that it comes with the original mono audio for the very first time!

A print on the back says "Erstmals inklusive der ursprünglichen Mono-Tonformate" (includes the original mono audio for the very first time).

The mono release comes with a print on the front saying Das Original (the original) that you don´t mix it up with the previous Blu-ray release.

Though I cannot confirm or deny that it is indeed the real "untouched" mono audio from 2014 that is supposed to be featured on the upcoming 4K release.

All this talk has me reminiscent about the old DVD days.

I remember purchasing the old snapcase goodtime Halloween 2 DVD from a seller on eBay when it released and was just glad to own the movie. No features, horrible artwork and I assume it was a terrible transfer.

It's crazy to see how far we've come in the physical media world.

WOW it was macro block central! I had never seen anything so pixelated in my life.

It was unwatchable.

Yeah. It was wretched! It also had a strange milky washed out layer to it that not only affected the look of the film but also the letterbox bars. The audio was mixed extremely low too. I had to turn my TV up to max just to be able to hear what was going on. I was so relieved when Anchor Bay remastered it.

It's been a long time since I have owned the 1999 DVD and if that included the Filtered Mono Mix then that would mean it was Chace Productions that did all of the original work to the audio sources and digital copies of these have been ported over to every other release since then (Mono Mix & Surround Mix). It makes sense because both the Mono Mix and the Surround Mix suffer from the same issues: limited, thin & muffled sound.

The 25th anniversary DVD had the original (filtered) mono, same as the THX DVD.

So a new 2021 4K transfer of the OCN? That’s exciting. Hopefully it’s better than that previous washed out nonsense on UHD. Which resembled no 35mm film that I know of.

Looks like it's DD 2.0. Probably just a port of the 35th Anniversary disc, from the looks of it, but I'd like to know if anyone has it.
