Nothing saying you need to buy the last three releases anyway, but what you got listed isn't 4k. Perhaps Disney + has got you now.

No, I just mean I’m happy with owning the films. I don’t feel the need with these ones. To be honest, I haven’t double dipped hugely. I’m picking up catalogue on 4K that I only owned on DVD or not at all mostly. Most of my new titles will be 4K going forward but I’m still happy to pick up Blu where 4K isn’t available (quite frequent)

You guys didn't answer my question, with your setups what looks and sounds good to Wendell is a lot different than what looks and sounds good to Steedeel.....Subjective!

Even Discs have compression, but the equipment used makes the difference and there's a cost for this Quality. JohnAV put this minimum cost at around $8K.

Ok,

I see your point Alchav. People think you need very high end gear for lossless audio but in fact it can be a matter of just using wired headphones instead of wireless and flipping a switch on the playback device. It's often a small amount of detail to the setup that will produce the best outcome that is available on any given gear with any given source.

Lossless audio sounds better to me than compressed. When I compared the new IMAX enhanced version of Thor Ragnorok to my UHD BD the video from the UHD BD also looked considerably better to me.

To some extent, it's what you are used to. I do the best I can to get the best I can from whatever I'm using and that starts with some understanding.

You can master the microwave but you may have even better results with a conventional oven.

These Black Friday sales are going to kill me but I'll die happy.

4K UHD BD for $9.99 !!!

Yikes! I could have saved more but I ran out of money. Waiting on Free Guy 4K then I'm going to have to log off till next month for my own good.

On the subject of Streaming Vs Digital, I want to add that today I'm rebuilding my home network because it has been buggy and I hope reconfiguring it can sweep out a few problems. That said, all of my movies can play without an internet connection. That's a TON of maitenence and updates and configuration and security issues I'm happy to be able to ignore when I would rather relax and watch a movie. My UHD BD player isn't connected to the internet at all and my entire collection only needs an electrical connection to function. It's comforting esp now that I have solar power at home.

Not necessarily true, experienced enthusiast and tech types will agree on many aspects of sound and vision. It is the very reason many still buy disc for movies and music, buy devices for immersive audio, buy large direct view or projectors for pictures. In many cases they buy products based upon objective measurements. Many want their systems calibrated so the performance is a known quantity.

At work we used to do a lot of equipment comparisons and ABX testing. An example, a producer/director commented the projector did not look as good as the monitor. My reply, if the monitor (30") was blown up to match the projector screen size of 195" it may not look as good.

I would say most here could tell the difference and pick a 7.2.6 sound system over a 5.1 system. Same for a 55" display vs a 85" display. Whether a person could afford and/or accommodate a step up system is a different matter. In my experience getting honest answers can be difficult. A person will say their 43" display is more than adequate rather than admit they can not afford a larger display.

Just purchased 4 titles myself, two were a blind buy. At these prices did not figure I had much to lose.

Nobody was a unexpected like for us, an older John Wick on steroids.

Agreed! I keep saying I'm not going to spend any more money but these deals are just too good to pass up. Added:

Exactly. Alchav doesn’t half presume a lot.

I don’t have your technical knowledge but I share your love of quality. I’m fortunate enough to have a great life long friend who lives near me and built/set my HT up to my specification. He has his own set up although his house is bigger than mine and his HT is slightly more elaborate.

Just scooped up two titles from that sale:

The Green Knight 4K disc
Shawshank Redemption 4K disc

I gotta keep it lean for now, because Mulholland Drive 4K CC is out this week.

That was a approximate cost of what someone might spend to achieve some semblance of quality, not a minimum cost.

The AVRs have seen price hike from Covid from $1500 to $2000. Speakers are a approximate of a set. Doesn’t mean someone couldn’t have a set a bit less that does a good job with video and audio quality, because for example what 65” tv that went for $2500 could be on sale for almost $1000 less right now.

Your problem is you think about this from the standpoint of how little you spend to entertain yourself through the years. Most gear lasts many years, instead you just discuss your love of streamed content, but never discuss anything else related to improving your enjoyment, that’s fine. Also we tend to buy gear when it’s needed not needlessly.

I grabbed 7 titles but F9 and Super 8 are out of stock at the moment, so will keep an eye on those two. Interesting everything is starting well before the official countdown. The game of waiting to see if things drop an extra couple of bucks later didn’t appeal to me so jumped on things while in stock.

Not at all Steedeel, everyone buys the best equipment for their budget and needs. My point was this equipment has different levels and cost, with the better equipment costing more and delivering higher Quality. So the high end equipment will produce the best PQ and Sound, then stepping down from there.

But that equipment can’t polish a turd. A stream that is straining under low compression isn’t going to suddenly become crisp, artefact free and dynamic.

It can actually work the other way where higher end equipment can reveal limitations with source material from both a video and audio standpoint compared to a less than modest setup.

It wasn't due to budgetary concerns but I just cancelled Paramount+, with Hulu not far behind. And once the Holidays are over Discovery+ will get the boot as well. Just not enough time to watch all the content available and I'm wasting money.

If I lived alone I would certainly only have one at a time. Otherwise it's overwhelming.

What makes sense is to split them with a group of people.

Sadly, I think there's an effect of saturating people with options and they don't really value it the same. Kind of like the music services have sort of diluted the value of music and made it much harder to find the good stuff.
