The next Bond should END (emotionally) where Craig's started.
I think he was bitter & jaded far too quickly. Also, I never understood why Craig's Bond was a spy or even wanted to be one? I know why they (MI6) recruited him, but not why he did it. He didn't seem to enjoy it or be good at it. I hope the new one is more enthusiastic about the job and GOOD at it. |

Craig wanted to lighten up Bond after Quantum of Solace. He was very open about that during the Skyfall press tour. And if you look at Skyfall going forward, in fits and starts, the films did get a bit lighter.

I own all of the Fleming books and have read the series through many, many times, and I've really enjoyed Craig's time as Bond. I appreciate all the eras as each sheds new light and perspective on a classic character.
You can stick this gatekeepy, "true fan" bullsh*t right up your Moonraker. |

Still not seeing where he wasn't "allowed" to lighten up, as was claimed. |

A friend I had in high school once told me he went into a Bond film expecting not to understand some 15% of what went on in it. And he had even read the novels because his dad was a big fan! I would myself revisit them regularly because every subsequent viewing would give you further insight into how well the scripts were crafted. The modern Bonds are written assuming that general audiences are really, really stupid so they need to be spoonfed information and also won't mind if the characters behave irrationally. Example: in QoS, M travels all the way to Bolivia to put Bond into custody but she lets him go 10 minutes later because she "trusts her agent's instinct" after a short meaningless exchange in a corridor. Madeleine's supposed betrayal is probably the worst written "stupid behaviour" in the whole series. Bond suspects her for only one reason: because it's necessary to move the plot forward. And regarding their lack of chemistry, I saw that coming in Spectre. I find Ms Sedoux's beauty to border on insolence but her acting leaves a lot to be desired. When she walks away from Bond in Spectre after telling him he's a good man must be the lowest female acting in a series where leading ladies were traditionally models rather than actresses (that is not counting Ms Lynch in this final opus, this woman couldn't act to save her life. Future Bond fans not conditioned by hype or agendas will skin her alive). |

FilmFreakosaurus has read more interviews than you, apparently. I also recall him saying that at least a couple of times. Like Mr Brosnan, Mr Craig is not very good at keeping his thoughts to himself and he's said a fair share of dumb things. I recall he read Casino Royale when he was offered the gig and threw it in a rubbish bin in the street when he finished. This is the same man who said this latest movie really honours the way Fleming wrote the character.

I don't mind so much the fact that Bond dies in the movie as the way it was done. The end of the movie is particularly saggy in order to "delay" Bond from leaving the island so he can be scratched by Safin. There's no sense of urgency/jeopardy, only of Bond being forced to act like an idiot by a lazy script. Why does Bond believe Madeleine has betrayed him? Because the script dictates him not to think. The character of Nomi fulfils no function in the storyline other than to assert minorities. She doesn't even have a surname, which has always been a giveaway for character which has no real importance, The character of Paloma isn't incorporated into the story, she's just an independent episode. The same people who were scared sh*tless at the board meeting in Rome in Spectre now look like a group of drunken Japanese/German businessmen abroad, no cares in the world. The Russian scientist belongs in Austin Powers 4 and makes JW Pepper look like a serious character by comparison. The trip to Norway doesn't advance the plot, it's just there to show some scenery and car chases. There's so much wrong with this particular entry. The real Bond movie was released last year. Its title? Tenet. |

Finally saw this in theaters, well worth the wait. It's probably up there with Casino Royale as Graig's best Bond film.
