i had heard some speculation that perhaps American Zoetrope had a helping hand, but who knows. I wouldn't rule out it simply being a licensing deal between Paramount and Criterion since there are several titles that Paramount is unlikely to do 4K releases with anyway, so they might as well continue licensing to Criterion.

If this is true, then perhaps Black Sunday (1977) will be released via Criterion this year, as well. I have a feeling Paramount don't necessarily want to release that film themselves anyway due to the subject matter. Off the top of my head, I could also see Marathon Man going to Criterion, too. Both of these are pure speculation, however.
I hope this news about The Virgin Suicides is true, anyway. I've never seen that one before. |
