DP-UB9000/UB9004, DP-UB820/UB824, DP-UB420/UB424 Consumer Complaints
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=7970 Last Updated: 24/04/2022 Sadly, due to Panasonic's lack of response, this endeavour has been ended. There will be no further participation in this document and/or matter from my end. The document cannot be made available for anyone else to access, it has been deleted. The Chief Engineer still has the document, it was sent to him by email and via Google Drive. It was made available for Panasonic in several forms and copies, but zero interest has been shown. My conclusion in clear, and the way Panasonic has responded to this just confirms that same conclusion. Thanks for your contributions! |

Just picked up a new UB820.
Any basic settings I need to be aware of? Also, I thought there was some sort tone mapping setting? I do not see it. Using with 2022 LG Oled. |

I think this refers to the forum member stmhlm who kindly compiled an exhaustive list of users issues, complaints, and quirks with the Panasonic players (mainly the 9000 and 820 I believe). It sounds like he was able to get the list (document) over to Panasonic (the chief engineer by the sounds of it), but sadly, Panasonic did nothing about the issues people were/are having. That is what I make of it anyway.
![]() stmhlm thanked members for their input and contributions, but it seems nothing further will be done thanks to Panasonic's lack of interest. |

Why would anyone want to turn off the display completely when it's on?

![]() There is a Chinese firm making them, but they are not at the same level as an Oppo or higher end name brand 4k player that is already out, plus they cost more than they are worth. I don't think you will be seeing any new name brand models. They will ride the current offerings out until they just stop making players altogether and force us into a life of scrounging for players through third party sellers or lower quality streaming. |

We watched Unforgiven the other night and it was super distracting the amount of light it gave off in the darker scenes. As well as just getting taken out of the film because I see how much time is left to go if that makes sense.

Why not just put a piece of black electrical tape over it?

That looks Mickey mouse. Best is to simply dim or turn the front panel display completely off.
The Pro players allow that, the super Pro players don't even have a front panel display (Sony X800/X800M2). ![]() The players that don't allow that are not real audiophile and videophile players. Lights are a distraction for serious music listening and serious movie watching. |

Panasonic corrected the major issue in the DV flickering issue but some users had other nitpicks wanting Panasonic to implement things to make it more like the discontinued Oppo players. Those players had some settings that made switching between different ARs easier. Not that these users were being unreasonable but Oppo is basically the only player manufacturer that has ever put some of these features in their units. If one really needs these features then buy a VP. To expect Panasonic make significant changes in their interface to emulate features in a line of players where the manufacturer didn’t see enough demand to stay in the market is kind of ridiculous. The way this post is written it makes it sound like the Panasonic line of UHD players were problem ridden. That’s far from the truth.
