I had to contact FUNimation to get the booklet, and they sent me the digipak-sized one so it doesn't fit in the actual Blu-ray case. Also fun fact, they goofed and put the DVD logo at the bottom.

Thanks for the anecdote. Kinda sad that the digipak didn't even last three years, but that's Funi for you.

I can tell from looking at my shelf that "DVD" logo was also on the digipak of the 1.11 Blu-ray release as well, so I'm kinda amused that they didn't fix it when they changed over the packaging.

I'm still salty the 2.22 slipcover is insanely hard to find. I swear even finding the rarest Vinegar Syndrome slipcover is a walk in the park by comparison.

I do have the 2.22 slipcover for the DVD but my blu-ray copy feels naked without it.

I’m not entirely surprised it was that short-lived, I never saw a single copy with the raised lettering intact, and the rest of it was pretty quick in starting to chip away.

Based on what I've been able to find online, Funi stopped including the slip for the 2.22 Blu-ray about 2 years after its March 2011 street date so it is indeed relatively rare.

But yeah, the orange 2.22 slipcover is pretty infamous for its textured surface flaking off. My copy's slip is in much better than average condition as compared to others I've seen on eBay, but it's by no means pristine either.

I never got 1.11 or 2.22 or watched even 3.33 because I was waiting on 4(.44?) because I assumed they'd do a set once it was all out and then I'd just get that, and then that got delayed over and over... so I just never got them. So it'd be nice if GKIDS got the HV rights and released a set or even individually.

Now that they're on Prime, I'll finally watch them. Planned to after I finished the show but had to get something else out of the way first.

Rebuild has been a prominent example of "schedule creep" and/or "scope creep" for just about as long as the project's been publicly acknolwedged, as seen from this late 2006 webpage at Evangelion.co.jp (i.e. the official Evangelion website).

My copy of 1.11 (ordered from amazon in 2017) came with a traditional style glossy slipcover and included a booklet inside the actual blu-ray case. 2.22 arrived sans slipcover but fortunately does have the interior booklet. 3.33 showed up with a rather battered outer slip-case (that I eventually discarded) and a booklet that's annoyingly too large to fit inside.

I'm torn as to whether or not I should keep them as a GKIDS release is all but inevitable once Amazon's window of exclusivity ends. My lovely friend Deneen provided a voice in the new dub and I'd like to own a physical copy featuring her performance sooner rather than later.

If you're attached to the Funi dub/subs, I'd say it's best to hold on to them for now. It's not impossible that a new release could include both the Amazon and Funi dubs, but given that their casts are more similar than the VSI NGE dub, I think it's much less likely to happen.

You could always try selling off the films without the booklets if that's all you care about.

Nah, I’m not really attached to either the Funi dub or the booklets, cool as they are to flip through. My hoarder side, however, is telling me that they might be fun to hang onto as an artifact of a different era lol

For now though they look pretty solid next to my limited edition series box:

I'm getting pretty sick of waiting on them to get back to me.
If it's been this long and they don't have anything noteworthy to say, idk what to think.

At this point I just want a classic disc for End of Eva that actually ****ing works.

My replacement Disc 05 for the NGE CE set just arrived. It came bubble wrapped in a cardboard mailer.

Nice ^^^

I also just emailed them a few days ago asking about updates on the replacement discs and they responded:

Quote:
We're currently still chasing the shipment of these replacement discs, but do expect them to arrive with us soon - apologies for the delay with this.
I wasn't just asking about disc 5 though, multiple discs from mine were scratched so I'm getting multiple discs replaced.

Hello. Are new sets already shipping with the fixed disc 5 in them? I am thinking about probably buying the Standard Edition in a couple of months from now, just would like to know about this as a heads-up.

Standard edition doesn’t have defective discs. The issue was with the CE and UE sets.

Disc #5 is the defective disc, and it is present (and defective) in all three sets.

I would know, as I had to send out for a replacement Disc #5 for my standard 5-disc version of the US Blu-ray set so that the deleted live-action scene in the bonus features would actually have English subtitles.

My apologies I thought the defect was on the ADV bonus discs.

The earliest releases of the ADV Platinum DVDs did have a defect on the English dub audio for Episode 3.
Some lines from Shinji were missing, and fixed discs of the original release with bonus features are rare.
I myself couldn't find any copy with the fixed English dub. A friend of mine replaced the Episode 3 English audio on the Platinum DVD with the one from the slimbox release, which has fixed audio but no bonuses.
It syncs up perfectly and the bitrate is still the same. It's just that the missing dub lines are present once again.

My copy in the Platinum Holiday collection is the fixed disc with bonus features.
