Why don't all Blu-ray discs take the same time to load? More specifically: why can't manufacturing companies (studios?) make these times more consistent? Is there a certain specification (or list thereof) that manufacturing companies/studios must meet?

Why was it named "blu-ray" is something in the disc blue or was it the creator of blu-rays favorite color?

That's an easy one: it's because its data is reaad and written by a blue laser.
Quote:
The name Blu-ray Disc derives from the blue-violet laser used to read the disc. While a standard DVD uses a 650 nanometre red laser, Blu-ray uses a shorter wavelength, a 405 nm blue-violet laser, and allows for almost six times more data storage than on a DVD.

It's a joke from a South Park episode called Gnomes (season 2). A bunch of gnomes would steal underpants and when confronted with their diabolical scheme they had a chart which read as follows:

Phase 1: Collect underpants
Phase 2: ?
Phase 3: Profit

I've never noticed certain BD's taking longer than other with the exception of when they load BD-Live content when you start then up, i.e. Iron Man.

the PS3 is one of the fastest loading players. I think only in the last few months have the stand-alones regularly loaded faster than the PS3.

The very first scene where joker robs the bank was shot in Imax along with most of the action scenes. The biggest difference you'll see is that the film takes up the whole screen (no black bars on top or bottom). For more specifics, you're going to ask someone else.

I never noticed it either and didn't again the second time I watched it, but then I forgot what to look out for. Will try to remember for next time!

Around once a month someone starts a thread about how Dark Knight is screwed up and why isn't the whole movie full screen. It is easy to miss because the movie starts full screen (IMAX) and most of the time when it goes IMAX it's night scenes so it's easy to miss the aspect ratio changing.

1) BD has two options for menus HDMV and BD-J, HDMV is much simpler but can't do as much
2) some BD-J titles run tests on the systems to know its capabilities so it will work well with what is designed
3) some live titles go to get data from the start
4)some have more content then others ( compare a plain static image to a menu with many changing images and sound obviously the second will have a lot more to DL before playing)
5) sometimes it is planned (i.e. make the splash screen last a bit longer)

Why don't we all the icons for the movies in the menu ?

Some have the pic and some it's written bdmovie or such with the picture of a disc.

Will that be corrected ?

the icon is on the disk, if the author did not make the disk with the icon then there will never be one (i.e. nothing to correct)

Often wondered that myself.. But why cannot it not be made the standard? Seeing an icon of the film on your PS3 looks way better than it just saying 'bdrom' or whatever. I always thought it was the older discs that just didn’t have it?
