Valkyrie (2008) can be added to the list. Aspect ratio is 1.85 and looked terrific on the 50' plasma. Great movie as well. Spectacular cast.
As a side note, I wanted to make a suggestion to the author and also a comment to those who both value and ridicule this thread. Firstly, as this is a list of films that adhere to a specific 'size' on a widescreen television, and as the author has made it a point to only add titles after which posters have confirmed the AR seen in their homes, I think the easiest way to go about double-checking any film's AR is to look it up on it's respective IMDB page. Every film will have it's AR listed under "Addition Details". This is the AR in which the movie was photographed, and as such almost always is the AR used when making the DVD/BD (I say almost because there is always the exceptions - usually foreign films or doc's - though I've yet to see one). Second, a quick note to those who question the validity of this thread and/or the technical appreciation for the "black bars" people who want this info may or may not have. It is very easy for those who do not understand every nuance of the process by which the 16:9 screen size was initially chosen to not explain themselves well on a messageboard when they are challenged as to why they need to have their "brand new tv screens filled". Also there is not a clear reasoning why some movies were filmed at one AR and others at a different one. Add to that the currently burgeoning increase of HD television content as well as HD movie channels and how they adjust some 2.35:1 films to be displayed at a more convenient 1.78:1, and you can easily understand how the majority of people, even film lovers, tend to place less emphasis on the issue. Threads like this are simply a comfortable and easy reference for those who may not understand the technical side as well as others, and want to know a little bit about what they're buying/renting/watching on their HD TV's. And even for those of us who know about the ratios and the reasoning, this list is still useful as a quick reference because the author has asked for eye witness confirmation in order to identify possible packaging mistakes. Here's hoping this list continues to be updated and people continue to see it's worth. |
