Watched The Getaway again recently for the first time in many years and had almost completely forgotten how flat out excellent it is. Things like the clever editing techniques used at the start of the film. Then the whole train sequence. And the sense of the vastness of the terrain and remoteness of some of the locations combined with the immediacy of the violence.
Picture quality on the Warner Blu-ray is decent and sound was OK. Just superb, essential filmmaking for those who love 70s crime/action thrillers. No surprise though with the talent involved (screenplay from Hill). Both this and Junior Bonner deserve a higher status in Peckinpah's oeuvre. |
