I'd like to see it happen. Shout Factory's 3-D releases all have issues, but there might not have been any 3-D release of those movies without them. I can understand people being put off about ordering a boxset for the sake of a 13 minute segment, and it's up to them if they want to take it or leave it. I'd like to at least have the option.

I'd see it as a highly desirable extra. For the budget Bob Furmanek mentioned, it'd bring a lot of added value and it'd be hard to argue against that.

Of course, but with a heavy heart as I'd have to buy at least two, so as to hopefully be able to pull together one set with minimal damage to the discs, and then return a set of the most damaged discs. I'm still waiting for my second F13 box and given the disastrous state of the discs in the first one there's no guarantee I won't have to return both boxes to Amazon. The one silver lining is that I ought to get two sets of replacement discs through, which I will keep irrespective of whether I return one or both box sets.

I would bet money on any NoES box landing me with a similar nightmare. Shout Factory are rank amateurs when it comes to quality control both in terms of the physical state of their discs and what's on them. Not only that, but they seem incapable of improvement in this regard.

I got an email from them saying they wouldn't replace mine, since I don't live in the USA or Canada. But yes, as has been pointed out, that's a conversation for another thread.

Where would be get the elements for the 3d ending like that? New Line supposedly didn't even have the censored materials from Parts 1 & 5 to be able to restore the films. I doubt that the original elements for FD's 3D ending would have been kept, let alone 'leaked'. There would be one eye of course, from the 2d print, but what about the other?

probably simulated 3D like the 2d to 3d tv/player conversion. The only chance on having this is if Shout factory gets the rights to do a new boxset a la Halloween and F13.

Shame the 3D wasn't able to be included in the SF box set. I didn't see this in the theater as a little kid, though I did see Army of the Darkness the following year and remember Jason Goes to Hell being sold out on the Friday the 13th release date.

Warner, my bad. Hopefully a SF set will be made as well. Still need the uncut version of the fifth film, lossless mono or stereo soundtracks when applicable, and all new scans. But considering some of the staples like several of the Halloween sequels are getting uhds, hopefully that will be a possibility as well. It'd be great to have the staple horror series like this and F13th in or at least special edition blus from new 4k scans.

The set hasn’t come out yet...they will do the ending in true 3D

Where do you come up with this? What's your source for this statement? New Line don't even have the elements for the censored footage from 1 & 5 to do a fully restored HD version of either. What makes you so sure that the elements exist for FD to have the ending in proper 3d?

I saw Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare at the New Beverly last Friday, with the 10 minute FreddyVision finale presented in Anaglyph 3D. I had a terrible experience the last time the Bev screened 3D for Creature from the Black Lagoon, which suffered from constant misalignment and ghosting. But since the FreddyVision 3D sequence isn't available outside of an out-of-print DVD, I figured it was now or never. And if it was bad, I wouldn't have to endure it for more than 10 minutes.

The print of Freddy's Dead was in fantastic shape, nary a scratch on it. The Nightmare on Elm Street series has some of the best special effects I've ever seen in horror, and they hold up to this day. So I had high hopes for the FreddyVision sequence...which turned out to be as unwatchable as the Bev's 3D print of Creature. All but a handful of shots had fatal ghosting; one lens looked correct, but the other could see both images at almost all times. The only shot that was unscathed was the final explosion, which is easily one of the best popouts I've ever seen, and earned a huge round of applause.

Are anaglyph 35mm prints known to develop ghosting over time? Or were they always this unwatchable?

Older (pre-early 80's) anaglyph prints can fade which would definitely degrade the effect, but that wouldn't be a problem for a film made in the 90's. I saw Freddy's Dead several times theatrically and always thought the 3D worked well enough for what it was. Granted I was still young enough to not be especially critical, but I had seen anaglyph 3D before on tv and video and this was the first time where it actually worked for me.

Maybe the reality of anaglyph theatrical quality just can't match your expectations but it's also possible the glasses that the New Beverly provided weren't a perfect match. Not all anaglyph glasses are created equal and that would be enough to give you a sub-optimal experience. If they weren't the real American Paper Optics glasses that could be a problem.

You’re right that the anaglyph glasses the Bev provided weren’t a perfect match. But my buddy’s buddy surprised us with a stack of official Freddy’s Dead 3D glasses, complete with a detachable coupon for Barq’s Root Beer that expired in 1991.

I tried both glasses for the FreddyVision sequence. The ghosting was 20% better with the official glasses vs the Bev’s glasses, but nowhere near fully corrected.

I’d buy a Blu-ray of this if the final ten minutes were converted into polarized format.

Anaglyph, of course. If it's new there should be 2 pairs of glasses included.
