Fair points but I can add external subs on my Oppo and I’m prepared to take the audio hit for the most superior video.

Better encoding outweighs everything else.

I'm not bovvered about the Italian version of First Blood, the UK encode is solid so it'll do me.

Although, as it turns out y'all might want to hang fire on hunting down some other encode to replace some other encode of whatever movie in this series. There could well be something coming later this year that will make all this quibbling redundant. I've been aksed not to give any specifics but holy shitballs it's gonna be EPIC

If you have ANY say in the matter whatsoever...

corrected colour-grading, inky blacks, good compression, and OG stereo, please...

I don't have any sway here, I'm not involved per se, but it's likely that several of those points will be addressed...

I’ve been away for a while from these forums, and now I am back with a warm welcome… Oh some things are forever!

Not that this is something that such an arrogant idiot like myself (who of corsh never ever in his life complained about compression issues, you know better, G!) couldn’t help but notice. But hey, me and whose army, right?

Original audio would be huge. Part II sounds so bad.

I own both the Eagle and StudioCanal releases, neither are perfect although on balance I think the Eagle wins out. The StudioCanal for Part II looks better on fast motion but looks worse on static scenes. I think part III the Eagle wins more clearly. First blood is quite close but the Eagle is a hair better, but it’s so close.

If I remember correctly (sold my UK copy a while ago), Eagle's First Blood imroves on darker scenes inside the cave and the "lego vision" fire during explosions.

Yea part 1 is pretty close encoding wise, but the Eagle is a touch better.

Part 2 seems to differ a lot depending on the scene...

Here the Eagle wins;

Here the StudioCanal wins;

Here the Eagle wins;
https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...&l=0&i=12&go=1

Here the StudioCanal wins;

Was it the new TV that made it more apparent, or have you always been a secret compressionade drinker?

Truth be told, I am not as sensible to compression as some folks on these forums, but some things stand out even for me. Like with Pan's Labirynth, or with lots of SC titles, this one including. Oh you know what they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Well yes, of course I would see this now after just buying all three in the last two weeks or so.

Only just found out meself, after having bought them three times trying to chase down the betterer encodes! That chase would appear to be coming to an end, and not just compression-wise.

Oh come on! Just tell us already!!! Or I will think SC have come to their senses and are going to re-do their titles in a proper way, T2 included. And all hell will break loose!

Of course it's the 40th Anniversary of First Blood.
