You can’t disable HDCP on something like this. You need an HDFury of some sort. If you just need to get rid of HDCP, it shouldn't be too expensive.

Bought my 820 in December 2021 on Amazon, and had to ship it off to the repair center last week because the disc tray would not open. I only use this thing every other week when I am home from work. Not too impressed with the product issue with less than 6 months of use.

Hi,
First Post here. I have a budget of £400.00 for a dedicated 4k player. Is the UB820 the one I should go for, or is there a better player for the price? One of my needs is quiet playback. Thanks |

I've just encountered an odd problem with a new 4K disc, that I'm sure is something to do with my setup rather than the disc itself.
When watching "Dr. Who and the Daleks" which has a LPCM 2.0 Mono soundtrack my AV Receiver occasionally cuts out, acting like it's lost the signal for about 10 seconds before eventually recovering. It seems to happen randomly throughout the film rather than at fixed points which makes me think it's my setup rather than the disc. My Receiver is admittedly pretty old now, an Onkyo TX NR626, but it's still going solid. It doesn't support HDR though so I've got the video going from my UB820 direct to the TV on the main HDMI, with the audio going to my Receiver on the second HDMI (it's set to Audio Only). I've got other audio formats set to bitstream and haven't encountered similar problems, and to be honest I'd expect even an older receiver like mine to be able to handle LPCM 2.0 without any problems. I've been looking through and trying to find any issues with my settings but nothing seems to make a difference. I might go out and buy a new HDMI cable, but again it's just a stereo signal so I doubt it's anything as simple as that. Does anyone have any suggestions? EDIT: Replaced my audio HDMI cable and everything is working fine. I'd been using the cable for years and never encountered a problem, then suddenly it started dropping like this. I've never encountered a HDMI cable "dying" before. Last edited by HippieDalek; 07-07-2022 at 01:12 PM. Reason: Update on issue I encountered. |

Try internally decoding the LPCM soundtrack in the Blu-ray player so the Blu-ray player sends LPCM directly to the A/V receiver. Old A/V receivers even without HDMI can receive LCPM up to 2.0 channels. If that does not fix the problem most likely a disc issue. Try a second A/V receiver or feed the 1.0 studio master LPCM track directly to the speakers in the flat panel screen. Flat panel screens can except native LPCM up to 2.0 and bitstream up to 5.1 Dolby Digital which the flat panel downscales to 2.0 channels.
It could be a bad disc or equipment incompatibility issue. Glad to see another Doctor Who fan on the forum. |

My Onkyo Receiver has a "Fixed mode" that allows me to force the input to expect PCM which can apparently fix issues like this but it didn't help. I think I might have found a work around though. As it's just stereo I switched the main HDMI over to Video + Audio and let my TV's ARC HDMI feed the audio to my receiver and I've now been able to watch half of the film glitch free (sadly I've not had the time to re-watch the whole film yet). Every previous attempt I'd get the glitch a couple of times before the half hour mark. So somehow passing through two HDMI cables and the TV is doing better than just the direct audio connection. So either I need to invest in a new HDMI cable for my audio, or the TV is somehow stabilising the signal enough for my Receiver not to flip out. Likewise! I'm really looking forward to "Daleks – Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D." coming to 4K next month; it's a real favourite of mine. Last edited by HippieDalek; 06-23-2022 at 08:12 AM. |

The track is sent "as it is" to your receiver. Then the receiver outputs mono, stereo or multi-channel based on the input track configuration |

Thanks, that's what I thought, but thought it better to check anyway.

My UB9000 is still displaying Dolby Vision incorrectly, even after the firmware upgrade. In DV, skin tones look all wrong and washed out. They take a sepia like appearance. The Shining still displays with significantly raised blacks and other discs are questionable as well. Turning DV off and playing the same discs in HDR, colours and everything else returns to normal. Anyone sort this out or is this expensive player a complete junk when it comes to DV?

Some thoughts. Make sure the player is on a noise dampened surface like wood or such. Some glass shelves can be problematic. 4K discs spin much faster than HD discs, and then some could be sensitive to certain fan sound frequencies. Noise dampening feet or a dampening panel can lower noise in certain applications. I guess it also depends on how loud the volume is on the movies you watch. Many members here feel the 820 is the better player for the price point that includes Dolby Vision and the HDR10 optimizing tone mapper. Good luck. |

Need your help please.
I installed a Panasonic DP-UB820P Blu Ray player and connected it to a Denon AVR 3700 via 4K HDMI cable. The Denon connects to a Samsung LSP9T via 4K HDMI. Panasonic home settings image fills the screen perfectly. The infamous FBI warning screen shows perfectly before the movie. However, when the movie starts (4K Blu Ray, Blu Ray or DVD) the image is several inches wider than the screen. When I play the same 4k Blu Ray, Blu Ray or DVD on my PS5 the image fits the screen perfectly. I also have no problems when streaming from my 4K Firestick. Panasonic 820 settings: Resolution: Auto 4K60P Output: 4K/60p(4:4:4) 24P Output: Off HDMI Video: Auto HDMO Audio: Audio Only Dolby Vision: Off (My Samsung projector doesn't support it) HDR10+: On I am sure there is a setting on the 820 to fix this but I've yet to figure it out. Suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated! |
