I remember when sooo many people were hyping up HDR10+. lol. The only time it gets used on my set is if im streaming a show or movie on Prime.

This is simply because people don’t know what they’re talking and simply mouthing off all the wrong information available on the internet. Knowing full well how HDR10+ works and why Samsung created it I already claimed it dead on arrival before it was actually released. In fact, Vincent Teoh also claimed the same thing too albeit not publicly.

Having rewatched quite a few titles on my Sammy OLED I can't say that I noticed HDR10+ much. Nor do I miss Dolby Vision. Having a display that can hit 1000 nits is by far the biggest leap I've taken with this format. DV was great to have on my old LG but that's about it. In the end it's all about how well your display does the tonemapping and what help it needs where it struggles.

Remember when HeatEquation said HDR10+ would kill Dolby Vision?

I miss the early days of this format lol.

Don't forget that Elvis was originally a 2021 film, so the HDR10+ might have been done a while ago with not enough reason for WB to drop it now that it's finally coming out on video.

Yes, these days they can author the disc right when the DCP is done so the director is there checking off the DCP, video master, sound mix, near field home mix, doing the interviews for the featurettes & commentaries, etc.

Yep, hitting 1000 nits natively is going to allow you to watch a lot of HDR content in “1:1” fashion, and good tone mapping can take care of the rest. Dynamic metadata in whatever form does help in those circumstances where the TV cannae do it, like Sony Light Cannon™️ stuff, but for Dobly the biggest benefit I get from it is the FEL discs that fill in the gaps on poorly encoded base layers.

Dolby’s color reproduction does have a noticeable difference to HDR10 in my experience. In a good way, despite being minor. I just don’t know what that technical difference is.

Still thinking that disc art is temp. Also No Time To Die (2021) had a sort of HDR10+ logo on the disc. But the "+" was missing.

@PieterV So we go wait for an actual announcement then before fully confirming it's status?
Cause like you've said, No Time to Die was go have HDR10+ alongside Dolby Vision, but the final product ended up just being Dolby Vision only.

Yes, we wait.

As of James Bond, there were never plans to release it along with HDR10+. But based on early low-res disc art we added it. Not knowing of that half assed logo missing the +.

Previous James Bond discs MGM all had Dolby Vision. So why suddenly HDR10+ too? Was kinda suprised back then.

Because at the time Universal's authoring kit had both DV & 10+ (someone else authored the other Bonds) - seems the newest revision has dropped 10+

It's funny how we went from a 4K with only HDR10 to one with that, 10+, and DV at the same time.

Weird Criterion. Weird.

Did you author it 2 years ago or something?
