Iceman it sounds like you are open to adding the ggw titles. I suggest you also add the R-rated blu-ray of Pirates II which is also on amazon. I just like comprehensiveness in the database (relative to amazon) so I know that I won't be missing out on anything. If there were a more clear standard as to what titles are excluded then it wouldn't be as big of a problem. Using amazon as a criterion makes it clear. Just my 2 cents.

BTW guys I guess we are using "mainstream" to mean anything that some critic or other deems a serious work/studio, etc. since many of these "mainstream" films with explicit, real sex are not by big Hollywood studios but small independent outfits. Some of the films with explicit, real sex are recognized as masterpieces or classics by film critics such as Roger Ebert -- for example Pola X. |

Hahaha! I never saw Caligula until I bought it used at Blockbuster on Blu-Ray. It was sitting on the shelf, used, for $3. I was like; "Can't pass up a movie on Blu-Ray for $3." I took it home and I was like; "Oh, My God!" Now, I watch porn on a daily basis. I have Porn DVDs. Now, this film threw me off because it has Malcolm McDowell and Helen Mirren. I was like; "Whoa!"

If you haven't seen Caligula and 9 Songs you are not qualified to offer an opinion about how they differ from Pirates I and II. I repeat there's more (in terms of run time proportional to film length) explicit, real sex in 9 Songs than there is in either of the Pirates I and II movies

I fully support the decision to remove the thread in question. I personally do not have anything against sexuality or porn for that matter. People's sexual preferences are their own, and I respect everyone's. Whether it is gay or straight porn, it really does not have a place in this forum. I believe that Iceman explained his reasoning in a very mature manner, and there's no reason for anyone to be offended.

So answer the question. What is the difference between 9 Songs and Pirates that would make one porn and one not? NC-17 is the replacement for the old X rating. And yes it doesn't matter. The question, is what makes 9 Songs mainstream and Pirates not mainstream. Neither are popular films. 9 Songs is as "arthouse" as it gets. Mainstream audiences would never have seen it in theaters except in "arthouse" theaters since "mainstream" theaters like Regal don't show anything above an R rating.

Here's an illustration of the problem I see that I talked about. Some critics praised 9 Songs. Some didn't like it but still recognized it as a legitimate movie of entertainement and/or artistic value. But some critics said it wasn't a legitimate movie at all but was "porn." So if 9 Songs comes to blu-ray, it leaves me with doubt in my mind as to whether it will be in the database and whether threads discussing it will be okay.

Also, IIRC, Romance which is "mainstream" and has real, explicit sex also uses some porn actors/actresses. Heck, Bloodrayne (or its sequel, don't remember) used real prostitutes. And 9 Songs does not use a well known actress for its lead role. I think it was her first role and only role as far as I know. |

So that's why you are not understanding that there is little difference between Caligula and Pirates. It becomes even clearer when comparing 9 Songs and Pirates. |
