So for some reason my 820 no longer appears in the Bravia Sync menu on my TV. Turning the player on used to automatically turn the TV on as well and go to that input. It still recognizes my X700, but the UB820 doesn't even come up as a device anymore. I have to manually switch the input and the Sony remote no longer works (like I can't play or pause or skip ahead) with the 820. Anyone ever have this happen?

I've fiddled around with it this morning and I can't figure out wtf is going on. I never changed any of the settings so why this suddenly doesn't work anymore is beyond me.

I have this exact remote from the UK, and yes, it works on the 820 (and 9000).

Edit: They currently are not shipping internationally, but I got mine from here about two years ago.

CEC is pretty unreliable, and in most cases will eventually mess up. Sometimes the only way to fix it is to disconnect all hdmi cables and unplug the tv and other devices for 5-10 minutes. But first try just unplugging the tv from the outlet and see.

Yeah, I turned off CEC on my gear years ago. It's nice when it works but ultimately it's too flaky.

I've thrown 100s of discs at it and the only time I've ever had a problem, it was with video distortion. Turns out, ALL of those dics had minor scratches on them usually caused by double stacked tracks from Disney. You may have to hold it up to the light to see it but if you are experiencing video cut outs or other issues in general, check your disc.

Just because it's new doesn't mean anything. Discs are typically packaged by humans and they are going to make mistakes. If it's a Marvel/Disney movie, it's almost inevitable with the stacked discs.

If the disc looks perfect, it's probably the disc at that point. Perhaps some players are less sensitive to scratches but I've never had an issue with a clean disc on my Panny.

Keep in mind, we are talking about 100s of gigabytes of data that the laser is having to read on the fly. If there is a single scratch, it's going to cause a hiccup. There's way less room for error on a UHD disc than a Blu-ray and especially a DVD which could sometimes play without issues with tons of scratches.
If a blu-ray or a 4K disc has a minimal amount of surface scratches, it still wouldn't affect the playability of the movie because of the protective coating, and the scratches aren't deep enough to cause playing issues. For a Blu-ray or a 4K disc to be severely scratched like that, someone would have to purposely damage the disc with a sharp object to penetrate through the protective coating. Besides if there any discs that are severely scratched, they are mishandled and not being taking care of.

From what we've seen from the last few years something seems to be causing problems in the pressing/packing process with quite a few discs. I doubt it's on purpose.

So that second method there seemed to do the trick. Had to unplug all the HDMI cables AND the TV, but at least now I know how to fix it if it happens again. Thanks!

Yeah it's a pretty cool feature, I really like being able to hit the tray eject button on the 820 remote and having the TV turn on and automatically switch to that input. This is the first time it's happened in over a year of owning it but if it starts to become more consistent, I'll prob just say f*ck it too tbh lol.

Speaking of that remote tho, man I really gotta get me the other one mentioned earlier up in the thread. The 820's remote has the worst button placement I've ever seen, accidentally hitting that Netflix button really has become SUPER annoying.

Well, I have yet to try sticking a USB thumb drive in my Panny! Or my Sony!

My X700 plays files off my external harddrive no problem, but the Panny? No dice. Was one of the reasons I kept my X700.

Also, goddamn this thing is terrible at playing DVDs. Not that I watch them regularly by any means, but I popped in my old DVD of Friday the 13th (the OG Paramount disc from 1999) when I got the UHD, was curious to see how the DVD played on my OLED and hooo boy. It looked all choppy and interlaced. I took it out and put it into my X700 and it looked a lot better. I mean it was still a DVD but yeah this thing sucks for DVD playback haha.

After almost a month with this player I’m going back to my Philips. It does not play well with eArc on my C9: every time when I load it, it switches back to internal speakers.

I also had an issue where I’d occasionally see faint snow or static over the picture. Thought I’d solved it by swapping HDMI cables, but it came back the other day.

Yep, the Pannysonics are bloody awful for DVD as well. I've only been complaining about it for years.

To me, DVDs look much better on a plasma tv than on a 4K. Whenever I want to see a movie on DVD, I watch it on the plasma in my bedroom., not on the 4K.

I also turned it off on my Panny 420. Just wasn't reliable as my other devices.

Are you talking about the eject button on the actual player?

When that happens, I hit eject on the remote and it bangs it back into place.

I feel like we shouldn't have to go through that for the price....but...it happens.

I tried hitting it on the player and the remote but it won't eject.

Is the drive making any noise when you press eject?

I have the opposite experience. DVD's look much better on the 9000 in any of the other four, five players I have hooked up. And if it's because I'm doing something wrong, then I don't wanna be right, because I can't imagine DVD looking better on any other player. Nice to have my DVD collection being relevant again.
