i dont understand why people would buy a 1.0 stand alone over the the ps3. more than likely the ps3 will be upgraded to 1.1 and 2.0. the ps3 just seems like the best investment at this time.

plus i get to have fun getting my ass kicked in warhawk.

I don't know if the PS3 will get 2.0 status but 1.1 I would say almost for sure. And if that is the case, I will just get a 2.0 SA player next christmas. Problem solved, easy as pie.

Given that the differences between Profile 1.1 and Profile 2 are network connectivity and more local storage, when the PS3 is upgraded to Profile 1.1 (via a firmware update), it stands to reason that it'll automatcially be Profile 2 too.

I can understand their logic. They just want to play Hi-Def movies and not worry about anything else. The PS3 is pretty straight forward for playing BDs, but a standalone is as fool proof as any current SD DVD player on the market. The moral of the story is "People don't want to have to think".

Oh and about profile 2.0, why wouldn't the PS3 be 2.0 compatible? Isn't profile 2.0 simply about adding network connectivity which the ps3 already has?
