Lmfao it’s a reboot. This is single handily one of the most idiotic decisions I’ve seen a studio make. This the equivalent of rebooting the LOTR trilogy or the original SW films. Without a doubt in my mind this series is gonna bomb.

While I certainly love the film franchise’s cast, and having read the books and loved the films more than the books…the setting of the series always made me want those films as an ongoing television series with those particular actors and actresses in those parts. It honestly could go either way, it could be amazing or it could be craptacular. I feel a ongoing show has both potential and a likely outcome of equaling the awesomeness of the films. I’m sensing that this project will be very complementary to the films and massively loved. I’m down with a new visual adaptation. The series won’t destroy the films anymore than SG1 destroyed Stargate.

Going to have to politely disagree. I saw most of the movies and wasn't a fan, partly because I thought that the pacing was strange for a movie (I feel the same way about the Twilight films). I think that the breathing room that the tv structure can bring would help a lot, plus being able to spend more time in Hogwarts and getting attached to the building. I would say that it's probably too early to do a second adaptation, but I looked and the last movie came out over a decade ago.

I'm not familiar with the books, but I think it'd be better to do something more original or a series based on HL rather than the same HP storyline. I mean, the series could turn out to be great or "better" than the movies, but even with changes, you'd still have the same basic plot/story and certain things that could not be changed. I'm not against it, just think creating from scratch offers more potential.

I knew this would happen at some point, but not so soon.
Casting new actors in those roles won't be easy, since the others are so iconic now. Even more difficult is what to do with Hogwarts. Do you re-design it to give it a different look than the films and make it stand out? Or do you use the same sets, but run the risk of coming off like a shallow copy of the films? I'm not sure fans would accept a different looking Hogwarts at this point. |

Starting with the third movie, the films left out important information from the books, so there's a lot of fertile ground for improvement here...and also the risk the series could be a complete misfire. Shrug. We'll see what happens.

I have zero interest. I would have in the past but I will not support anything JK Rowling is involved with going forward. Go ahead and post your "I am sure it hurts her feelings" posts.

This comment section in it's nubile state is wild. There's normalcy in I'm cautiously excited or lets wait and see. There's excitement from others hoping, naturally, a book a season would allow for much more storytelling. And then there's outright hate and vitriol whether it be for the author or that they'd dare touch the film series or it's too soon etc etc. This could be a thread to watch.
As for myself I'll wait to hear more info and realistically base a watch off of the trailer and/or reviews. A series like Harry Potter allowed me to grow fond of the characters and the world over time and by the time we reached the end I was sad there wasn't more. That doesn't necessarily correlate to more is better. As usual I hope for the best and for something new to be excited about Here's hoping it's a masterpiece and the naysayers eat their words or go into defense. While at the same time if it ends up being a train wreck I have far more than enough other options to keep me busy. ![]() |

Highly unnecessary and kinda wreaks of "sub-grab". I'm cool with J.K. and not a pouty toddler about her personal views, this just isn't an endeavor worth taking up... not when there's already a film series that covers the books well enough.

There was the rumour that they’re trying to capitalise on the Hogwarts Legacy storyline, which, despite running long, is probably one of the thinnest game stories I’ve played in a while, and it feels like most the enthusiasm for that game really teetered off fast.

Not interested in this. There is a lot of material the movies left out (especially from the Goblet of Fire onwards) but I don't believe a new cast and crew can capture the magic of the originals and I'm sure they'll mess up more than they'll fix.
I think the main reason WB is going this route is because building on the existing HP series has turned out to be a creative dead end. Prequels in the form of Fantastic Beasts flopped. Then their goal was to capitalize on a sequel in the form of Cursed Child that would bring back the original cast and while Chris Columbus was eager to direct, there was no approval from any of the main cast. Daniel, Emma, and Rupert have all basically said no, and while Rupert has said he'd be okay returning if the others did and Dan said he'd be open to returning decades from now, from what I've heard online, Emma refuses to have anything to do with HP or JKR anymore. On top of that, more than the main cast not likely returning is the fact that JKR herself has said no to a Cursed Child movie. She feels that a movie will hurt ticket sales for the show. That leaves WB with no choice but to reboot if they want to keep minting off of HP. |
