Well, the original trio would only consider doing more HP if the scripts were 'right' and JK Rowling wasn't part of it. It seems unlikely at this stage and I don't think Rowling has any interest in just handing over the reins to her characters to Warner Bros.

Dealing very directly with JKR also has serious PR considerations for WB. The last thing they want is to alienate a lot of younger audiences, which might happen if they are seen as being too supportive of her.

Rowling has WBs over a barrel with the Potterverse, they can't really do much without her. I would imagine the best they might be able to swing is to convince her to take a deep background role, but whatever happens she'll exert influence either directly or indirectly and I don't think there's any way she'll let WBs have free reign.
Re the original cast, I don't think they'd be back either way. If it was a continuing work, sure, but this is a new adaptation so I wouldn't expect anyone from the original films to be appearing. |

Fantastic Beasts was a failure, fair to say at this point, but all signs point to that being because people just didn't like them rather than any general turn on the franchise and JKR. The reason we aren't getting the further adventures of adult Harry Potter is solely because JKR doesn't want there to be further stories. If she did, we certainly would have gotten additional books or films by now. There's the play, but adapting that would cut into the plays ticket sales. Beyond that, the play actually sucks ass, and removing what makes it worthwhile to see would have a massive impact. Cursed Child is a brilliant stage production, but putting it on screen would just make it a standard movie with a bunch of CGI, removing the wow factor of seeing its effects work live. What you'd be left with is a nonsense fanfic that bastardizes most of its characters. JKR didn't even care enough to write the thing herself because she's so over writing Potter stories. The best thing they can do now is exactly what they're doing. A good tv series that adapts the books in ways the original films couldn't. If it's good, it'll be huge. But it really does need to actually be good. As much as JKR might piss people off with her views, the Wizarding world she created has seemingly overtaken her. No one cares about her additional stories with Newt, but people seem to still love the world in-spite of whatever the public opinion of its creator might be. |

The only people that it will alienate is .01% of the population. The rest of the world will be just fine with it not care at all of her being involved.

This isn't complex. There are people in the world who can disagree with Rowling on certain of her opinions while not hating the HP series (or perhaps even Rowling herself). It is possible and apparently so if Hogwarts Legacy as well as continuing books and merchandise sales for the series are any indication.

Disney/LFL was willing to pay those millions for Harrison and company because they knew the audience turnout would be for those specific characters and they'd make those millions back and then some. Disney/Marvel is bringing back Chris Evans as well and I wouldn't be surprised if one day they'll be willing to pay Robert Downey Jr. the millions they used to pay him because they know it'll be worth it in the long run. And the rumors are of course that they want Johnny Depp back now as well for POTC because there is no POTC without him. However, like the HP cast, he made it very clear that he won't return out of principle. |

Stupid strategy if true. Although, this is Zaslav so nothing would surprise me.
I suspect that this may have been explored as an option at some point but I can't see why either Radcliffe or Watson would change their minds, and WBs have probably already figured that it's better for them to reboot the series anyway. One new films vs 7 seasons of television and either an 8th or a new film to adapt the Cursed Child if they want to. The timing seems ridiculous to me, 10 years since the last film, but that's where we are now, reboots/re-imaginings and a general lack of creativity everywhere abounds. |

There's no way the original cast members, especially Radcliffe, Watson and Grint would or could be forced to do anymore. They've wrapped their story up. Move on to a different cast if the cows teet needs squeezing some more. I thought there'd be an animated series by now anyways.
If they were to appear again then kerching for Warners and Rowling. |
