Solution for HDR issue with YouTube/Google TV

I saw that Google listed my Superman movies as 4K (so upgraded from HD) with no announcement. But I had no way to confirm because my TCL 6, using my Chromecast with Google TV, wasn't telling my TV to turn on HDR or Dolby Vision when I opened the movie.

Found a solution for now, but definitely reporting the feedback and bug to Google.

For anybody that comes across this in the future, I found the problem. I had my Dolby vision set to standard as opposed to low latency, for whatever reason, switching to low latency fixed it and standard HDR works again.

Here's my explanation of how I found this answer:

I was actually wondering why my purchased Superman movies were saying they were in 4K but I couldn't get them to show in 4K on my TV.

(These were just released in 4k)

When I opened my older TCL Android TV, and opened the old Google Play Movies & TV app, my movies also said they were 4K and once I tapped play, they showed the HDR10 logo.

But whether I opened through YouTube, YouTube TV, or Google TV on my CCwGTV, it didn't open the HDR logo.

I even opened the old app by telling Assistant to "open Google Play Movies & TV" which opens the old app that isn't accessible through any other way on Google TV

It showed 4k like my other TV

Then I tried on YouTube again today, and I noticed it SAID it was streaming quality at 2160p HDR

Looked it up on Google search, found your post.

You can set your Chromecast to "Always HDR" or "Match content".

Always HDR - HDR turns on as soon as you turn on your TV and Chromecast.

Match content - HDR turns on only when content has HDR.

Yeah, but most of the time I watch stuff with Dolby Vision. I don't want to use plain HDR if I have an option of better.

They mean HDR in general. You can choose your preferred HDR in the settings.

Yes, my preferred is set to DV
