Well, I don't think Hanks would do it without Ron Howard, so they somehow get him to do it or it's not happening at all.

With Inferno barely scraping by (don't think it broke even theatrically) and The Lost Symbol TV series being a big dud, I don't see Sony going back to Dan Brown anytime soon.

Interestingly, Hanks did talk about (the unreleased at the time) Origin during the press for Inferno, seemingly hinting that he wasn't done with the Robert Langdon role:

But, Dan Brown, who is very secretive, is working on another one. We have no idea if it's going to come down the pike -- if we're going to want to jump on it or not. We'll see. The good news is contractually, we don't have to. This is all our voluntary actions.
