Conservative color timing but the impact of HDR is still very powerful. Especially thanks to those flashing moments. There is still some white clipping however at various levels. The nude scene also show some FPN which makes me believe that the negative has had very high density and thus difficult to digitize. It's extremely minor and not exactly visible during viewing unless you really know what to look for. Colors are very much BT.709 with a few exceptions which I think suits the film great.
Thanks for this. Great to see David Lynch embracing HDR!

Spent the last week or so updating all these old posts of mine. All of them should now have heatmaps, gamut visualizations, luminance info, HDR10 plots and be formatted with thumbnails for easier viewing. Let me know if you see any errors.

Later today I'll post Raiders of the Lost Ark. After that I'll have the other Indiana Jones entries, Edge of Tomorrow, Lord of the Rings, The Matrix trilogy, and the M:I series.

While the peaks are not overly hot, I feel like the averages are a somewhat too high for my taste and this particular film. Highlights are covered wonderfully though.

Same story as last time: impressive HDR grade and WCG usage.

Some highlights:

Seems like Temple of Doom looks much better than it deserves.

Ready Player One

Not the brightest disc but it does look fantastic in a dark enviroment. With so many dark scenes you don't need that bright highlights to make it spectacular. Very pleasing. Magnificent colors too. Kind of surprised of the occasional white clipping in real life sequences but thankfully the APLs are still good so I forgive them.

Chappie

Sony's very first UHD-BD and it shows. Very bright overall but the darker scenes still provide very impressive contrast. An interesting grade for sure and I still think it looks pretty darn good on a modern set.

Continues the same trends from the other two Indy movies, but I didn't see quite as much WCG usage this time (in my obviously limited scope). Here are a couple highlights anyway:

Edge of Tomorrow is coming....tomorrow. Maybe Fellowship of the Ring too, if I can finish it, then back on Monday for Two Towers.

Toy Story 4

The HDR is so good on this one. Highlights and peaks are always well chosen and APL is at a very comfortable level throughout the entire film.

A relatively subdued grade on the whole, not that there's anything wrong with that. A couple gamut stand-outs:

@dorian:

I noticed that you posted a HDR plot in the Heat 4K BD thread today:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...3#post21332443

To my understanding it was done using some new script that you have created. Is this correct, and if so have to added it to the analysis tools used by you and others in this thread?

I think it could be very useful for analyzing other movies too, so that would be much appreciated.

Also two questions:
* Since this script will analyze each pixel in each frame on the disc, approximately how long does it take to create a HDR plot using this new script? I know this will depend on PC hardware and length of movie, but would be nice to get a rough estimate (and maybe if you also can mention the CPU used, for reference).
* How does it differ from the HDR plots published by e.g. Macatouille? Are his plots e.g. based on metadata from the disc instead?

The Bad Guys
Universal - USA
HDR Formats: HDR10

Measured Max Peak Brightness: 1,097 nits
Measured Max Frame Average: 478 nits

Interestingly despite the site's reviewer specifically calling out how much deeper and truer he thought the colors were on the UHD versus the Blu-ray, it seems like the UHD was graded specifically to adhere closely to the Rec. 709 gamut - as can be seen with the way the most saturated colors align almost perfectly with the edges of that color space. There is some minor spillover in many shots, but it's practically incidental.

HDR brightness plot:
