The YouTube video title is 100% click bait. John ranked his three films with the The Last Jedi being 3rd, but also said they are "all lovely". His was a ranking, nothing about "hate".

And his involvement lasted about 20 seconds of the 13 minutes video.

The YouTuber then goes on with the re-re-re-re-rehashed stuff.

Funny I’ve been a fan of Star Wars since 1977. The Last Jedi didn’t feel wrong at all.

It comes down to opinion tho - no matter what franchise/film their are always gonna be people who like movies you/me don't and vice versa.

True. Except Mark Hamill was warning fans even before the movie was released. Carrie Fisher (RIP) said "They (the filmmakers) should have listened to Mark". Daisy Ridley literally cried when she found out that Abrams would be back for the third movie.

Six years later, and even mainstream media is still writing articles backtracking on previous praise. Jonson's Star Wars trilogy is less likely than another Indiana Jones movie, and the "haters" who said that the trilogy was totally unplanned turned out to be correct. Oh, and John Boyega is still pissed

TLJ has become a self generating cottage industry. If it were just about personal preferences I don't think this would be the case.

I mean it undid Lucas' whole story and vision from the original films but sure, it "didn't feel wrong at all".........

Unless you're one of the "muh haan shooooot fiiisstt" purists who think Lucas telling the story he wanted was a sign of him "not understanding his work now".

But anyway, TLJ stinks and this thread didn't really need to be made. We know why it stinks and the only purpose for this is a soapbox for it's defenders to voice their persecution complex.

We're talking a lot about TLJ, mainly because of my thread title. But the linked video was about Boyega, how he was treated and how he feels six years later. But of course his issues started in TLJ. So.....?

Black men are not near the bottom at all. If anything I would say Asians have had it far worse as far as opportunities in Hollywood.

Han shot first until he didn’t. I care about Lucas’s vision about as much as I care about Roddenberry’s vision for Star Trek. I take it into consideration but once you open it up to other creators the story doesn’t have to follow the vision of the original creator.

I can’t think of anything in TLJ that strays anyways.

I just wanna be totally clear on this. You're saying Jon Boyega 'realizes' that his character was underwritten but Samuel Jackson does not, or rather 'realizes' and doesn't care?

In certain areas, Asians in the US are in the weird position of being unfairly punished for doing "too well". But even if Asians also have historically been treated poorly in Hollywood, that doesn't suddenly put black men in a better position. Also this sounds like a race to the bottom and I'm not interested in doing that. Boyega is doing well for himself as are many other black men. But the linked video puts Boyega's TLJ treatment in historical context, essentially comparing the rhetoric of modern Hollywood with the actions of it's recent past.

What Boyega only recently realized is that many of the supposed "haters" and "racists" were not haters or racists as described by mainstream media. Instead they actually supported him and agreed that his character was treated poorly. That he, Kelly Tran and others were being used as a smokescreen by the studio to sheild themselves from criticism. To me that's pretty racist.
Samuel L Jackson's public statements suggests that he doesn't realize that his character has been s**t upon. He says that he is only interested in the character not getting killed because "he kinda likes the gig". But to be fair, his other comments about "racists" suggest that he believes the BS he is being is fed about "haters". That is where John Boyega used to be, so maybe I'm being a little unfair.

He hates it because he thinks he is owed anything, he thinks he is owed stardom and a career when he was in fact a sad, talentless diversity hire. It's time to let it go.

This person apparently thinks that the only reason black actors get hired is because they're black.

The example I gave elsewhere is like if Iron Man 2 ended with the Russian scientist's son winning and it turns out that Tony was a fraud taking credit for the Russian scientist's work.
I can agree that the Skrull help has reframed Fury's perception, but that's 15 years after the character has been established.
Fury will probably get redeemed in The Marvels, and folks wont hold Secret Invasion as a red card.

I cant place how Finn's tokenism at the same table since it was pretty much out of the gate that he was going to be an appendage to Rey.

IMO, they wanted a new "Lando" and didn't drink enough Colt 45 to make work everytime as a character.
