Someone is selling the Bluray version of the Collector's Edition for $50 USD. My question is should I wait and try to get the 4K version? Or another way to rephrase my question is is the 4K version that much better that I will regret getting the Bluray version? The 4K version doesn't need to be any special edition and I'd prefer to buy it on sale or second hand as I can't afford it at msrp. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. FWIW I also have the LG C2 and Samsung 990B.

Like already mentioned, the 4k version of this show is truly a fantastic viewing. The blu-ray itself was very excellent to begin with, so if you have the gear which already looks like you do , you're going to have a really fun viewing. I got the 4k version when it came on sale for $100, I did have a few problematic discs which I was able to exchange.

I had the bluray versions and still decided to upgrade.

I just picked this set up from Gruv and within the first minute of the first episode the disc stops playing. Y'all weren't kidding about the defective discs!

Do the issues happen for all versions, or mainly the USA one? Bought our 4k collection from the UK a few months ago, but haven't watched it yet. Discs seemed to be without any scratches though.

I think it is mainly the US version. I bought (and watched) the Nordic versions of seasons 1-4 (they are sold separately here, as well as in a set). I had no playback problems whatsoever.

Was hoping this would go down a bit more for the Black Friday deals, seems unlikely now.

Pretty sure $99 is the lowest it’s gone but it should go lower now that the code is nuked.

You can get it from Gruv for about the same price if you use their signup 20% off promo.

Well I snagged it for a little lower than $99 with some rewards points, glad it finally went a bit more on sale. Hopefully I have no issues with the discs lol

I went through 3 sets before I got a good set and it still isn't 100%. It was time consuming as hell because I had to re-watch many discs to ensure I didn't have any playback issues.

Definitely keeping my original blu-rays just in case, also just to have them on hand too. I know Warner isn’t super reliable with replacement discs, but is it possible to get some from there when faced with issues in this set? I never paid too much attention to the problems of this set as it was originally out of my budget. Is it mostly just to do with scratching due to stacking?

I got mine today, about four discs scratched, but I’ve seen worse. If anything, I’ll just be really annoying to WB if I can’t return it if any don’t work, done that before lmao

I would still exchange through the retailer you purchased it from. I did get discs from WB but it took 3 months. The discs can get scratched by stacking them but the set is pressed and packaged in Mexico which is a quality control dumpster fire. The majority of the discs are scratched before packaging.

It can definitely take a while to get through the entire show. Just give the set a good look over & place the bad discs aside (if any) before re-ordering. Honestly the quickest method is to order from Amazon as they’ve got the quickest/easiest returns.

Just ordered this and now see all these issues. Is the consensus that you will only have problems if there are scratches or are there issues even on seemingly pristine discs?

Guess I will have to watch this sooner than later to make sure.

A little bit of both from what I’ve gathered in this thread but more so ‘cause of scratches.

What a mess with the defects .. probably was a good thing i got the 1080p set before the UHD set was announced - and i was satisfied with the standard Blu since every season is Atmos-ed. I only have Season 8 (with the magnet) on UHD and it still worked last year...

Do the UK/Eu sets fare better? I would get those at extra expense if they don't have these playability issues.

There are 2 things that can cause major issues with this release. One is the terrible Mexican pressing plant causing scratches before the discs even leave the plant. Two, most of the discs are 100GB triple layer ones. While it is good to use those over 66GB (for obvious reasons) they are just so prone to sector errors because there is so much data crammed on them, even when the disc can look "flawless". The chances of getting this boxset and having not even 1 faulty disc must be extremely low.

Was the set reissued with DV discs for season one? I thought they were only HDR, but my tv settings are saying DV!

They were always Dolby Vision.

I wouldn't go that far - especially since some of the issues seem player-specific.

The only issue with my set is that the XBOX Series X refused to play the very first disc (it didn't even recognize it as a disc), but that and everything has played flawlessly now in multiple stand-alone players.

Kinda glad about it because it convinced me to upgrade from using a game console, and man, I wish I had done it sooner.
