tvted, just a lurker before, but I had to comment since I'm aware of what Warner is doing with another BD title and it is definitely not 'real' PIP.

Remember, PIP requires a 2nd video processor that doesn't exist on most of the standalone players. That's a fact. Yes, PS3 could be upgraded to 1.1 and it will most likely happen but that doesn't fix the rest.

As an authoring house, I'd develop a feature that will work on all players. Why piss off any percentage of your potential buyers, when there is plenty of extra space on the BD? Crank and The Descent did this successfully.

You may be correct about this particular encoding - I don't care whether PIP exists - it wastes bandwidth. I might point out that this sentiment is not atypical as many polls on AVS and herabouts have indicated.

Warner has held back titles because of the lack of this very feature. Unless you are an Insider you have no more proof that Warner (New Line) will not be encoding for the lowest common denominator which is the PS3. The BDA has always indicated the first gen players will not have the necessary hardware to handle PIP. The vast majority of the BD player base i.e. the PS3 *will* be capable of said feature. If an authoring house is aiming at the majority of the BD base, they will produce for the PS3.

big dog on campus, blues brothers 2000 in comparison to hairspray is not what i meant. I meant that hairspray was a great movie and NO ONE should judge a book by its cover. Get off your high horse and think outside of the box because it DID make more money than Boon Dock Saints so yeah

lol first off Boondock Saints was a limited release, and a low budget film, so yea.

Btw I was just kidding, no need to get all huffed up.

does this mean when rush hour 3 comes out this 4th quarter that it will be blu-ray and standard dvd? that would be huge. another blockbuster for blu when i didn't even think it would be released because i thought new line cinema would sit it out longer. If so, we could see a rush hour trilogy box also just like spidey, die hard, oceans. that would sell like hotcakes.

It would appear that way as Rush Hour 3 does not get theatrically released in many European countries and even Australia until late September through the middle of October. So it does look like Rush Hour 3 will be Blu-ray Exclsuive through 2007!

My grandparent's are about to dive into the world of high definition. I'm actually trying to convince them to buy a blu-ray player to go along with the tv...I'm actually using the fact that this movie is coming to blu-ray as a selling point. I was going to try and see if they would buy one anyway, and then I saw the announcement for this movie and figured I could use it. They freakin LOVED this movie. I personally didn't see it but may rent it.

I'm willing to bet the delay has nothing to do with region coding. I think New Line just doesn't want to bother making a second lower-bitrate encoding, so they are "delaying" it in hopes that HD DVD is gone by the end of the year.

This news just gets me thinking about all the other New Line movies I want...

The New World and Dumb & Dumber, to name a couple (despite their vast differences...heh).
