![]() Here’s my hopefully understandble view on wanting a PS5 Pro. As soon as we got the consoles, the PC space had moved forward a leap ahead in Ray Tracing and generally another level with DLSS too. It became apparent that whilst there was solid optimisations for console games to largely stick to 30fps or even up to 60fps, you could see where they had to balance more stuff and peg certain graphics back. So for me, the PS5 Pro was a solution to help iron out the upper end of graphics to push 60fps, higher resolutions and Ray Tracing. Also, PC ports being handed off to other studios isn't in and of itself a rationale for poorer performance come launch. I think the huge amount of potential configurations is one issue, but the code itself not being optimised is a bigger issue too. There's also minimum specs they tout for the game to work. Look, if i'm honest i have always loved the PC space as a person who wants to see what boundaries can be pushed graphically and even through tech innovations because usually those filter through to consoles and i've loved consoles because they're closed systems where year on year developers manage to get better and better results on the same hardware with new tricks and since we switched to x86, those tricks should get even better with newer hardware. My current apathy with consoles though is more to do with where i am in life. I'm no longer having as much free time to game like i used to as a kid/teen etc. during the PS1 to PS3 era and parts of PS4. The cost of gaming in general has gone up significantly and to me the quality of games from what i generally like to play has stalled to releasing less often. GTA is a prime example of going from like 4 entries on the PS2, 2 on the PS3 with expansions accounted for and none on the PS4 despite being out for like 8 years. I see myself as i've said holding a love for what used to be when it comes to consoles, but long term with the way things are trending, i see myself transitioning to PC with a view to maybe console gaming very late in the generations. I bought a PS5 at launch and just couldn't see a reason to keep it until a year and a half down the line when i bought a 4K TV and there was slightly more games and somebody gifted it to me as a present. I think with Sony releasing to PC, MS already doing so, i can get a better balance of performance and IPs from both houses for the money in the future. I am not moving away anytime soon, but around 2028 when PS6 is due for launch, i'll definitely have a firmer idea where i'm going with gaming. |
