Unfortunately Del Toro is wrong as a Kickstarter could have easily made his budget… One million people giving $120.00 pays for the project, the production company would have allowed a third film if Del Toro spent 60-70 million of their money. Kickstarter would only have to raise half the 120 million so 500,000 donations of $120.00 or a million donations of $60.00…likely a large number of people would give under $100 but some would easily give $1000.00 or more, especially to have their name thrown in the credits as a producer. Even if he fell short he could have filmed and shown the bulk of the film to fans and the Production company to squeeze another 10-15 million over budget with a trade option to forgo his paycheck if it didn’t make “X” amount of dollars.
