SPOILER TAGS: When & How to Use Them

I've seen this come up several times in the last few years, where people jump into a thread about a film, but refuse to watch trailers, and then complain that discussion is happening without spoiler tags about what's been made public by the marketing team (trailers, posters, etc.)

So what do we do about this? Shouldn't there be a reasonable expectation that anything the marketing team made public shouldn't be marked with a spoiler tag?

I'm having a hard time understanding why people come into a discussion expecting the entire thread to be filled with [Show spoiler].

I read the first post and it doesn't really cover it, except "major plot point", but isn't that subjective?
