If someone is willing to pick up the BD, when they can just as easily watch it in 4K digitally, odds are they'll probably double dip for the UHD.

Which all leads back to this being intentional. They see pre-order numbers/fulfillment requests. They know how well something is going to sell before it releases, and can extrapolate from there. Putting something out with the thought "Well, if this sells well, we can probably squeeze a few more bucks out of folks with an upgrade in 6 months" was exactly the point I originally made.

If this werent happening constantly you'd have a point. Horror sells, they know this.
