United Kingdom The Prisoner (1955)

Couldn't see a thread on this one. I bought this Blu Ray fairly recently and wondered if anyone has seen it. I have read that i was banned. Anybody know why?

From wikipedia:
"The Prisoner generated controversy at the time of its release. While, in Ireland, it was seen by some as "pro-Communist", in France, where it was prohibited from being shown at the Cannes Film Festival, the film was labelled "anti-Communist", and it was banned from the Venice Film Festival due to its being considered "so anti-Communist that it would be offensive to Communist countries". Some in Italy saw the film as "anti-Catholic", but, despite this, it was given an award by the International Catholic Office of the Cinema and commended by Cardinal Bernard Griffin."

You cant go wrong with Alec Guinness. Too many of his films are not on BD.

Agreed.

There's this 1977 film called 'Star Wars' that's crying out for an official BD release. It's been stuck on laserdisc for decades!

The 1997 remake (I think they called it 'A New Hope'?) somehow got a 4K so it shouldn't be too much to ask

I know thats a common myth made by Lucas-bashers but the last dvd-only release had the original theater releases instead of just the SEs.

I know this cause said dvds are in my possession.

Yes, I own them too. The bonus DVD's contain Laserdisc rips of the theatrical versions. That doesn't make my tongue-in-cheek comment any less pertinent.

Luckily we have the good folks at Project 4K77.

Oh I fully realize facts are of no concern to Lucas-bashers like the fact disney now controls SW not Lucas.

I literally never mentioned Lucas and I certainly didn't "bash" him. What are you even talking about? I never mentioned anything to do with who controls the IP either. What difference does that make anyway?

My original comment was a sarcastic joke, hence "I think they called it 'A New Hope'?" and "", in case that wasn't blindingly obvious. For brevity, I said they'd been "stuck on laserdisc" rather than "stuck on Limited Edition bonus DVDs sourced from laserdisc".

I don't even get what your angle is here. Are you one of those who is actively against the idea of people being given official access to the original films so reflexively jump in to attack mode at the slightest mention of it? Talk about 'toxic fandom' if that's the case.

Or are you just against people bashing Lucas? If it's just that, then fair enough. More power to you. Lucas is a (flawed) genius. But again, I literally never even mentioned him.

Everything is fine. Nobody is going to take away your Special Editions and nobody wants to.

A thread for a perfectly good Alec Guinness film hijacked by Star Wars talk, this is the way.

Yep to Lucas-bashers it makes no difference to bother people about something that happened 26 years ago and fills them with such rage that they have to constantly wail about it to everybody they can to this day with their false 'Lucas-facts'.

Okay. Go take it up with them instead of me then. Your wailing is bothersome.
