Hi Phazed. On the 11th, Alliance has a whole bunch of "re-releases" coming & we're not sure what the heck they are exactly. On HMV.ca, they are listed as "2SET", which typically means 2-disc set in most/all cases on that site. So I'm assuming the second disc (if there in fact is be one) will be either a digital copy or DVD copy of the film. Alliance only just got into the digital copy thing last week with Coraline, so we won't know for sure if that's the case until the time of release.

Only if the transfer is comparable to the JPN one. I might still bite as long as they don't completely neuter the release.

i think this north american release of equilibrium has everybody's interest heightened. i am gonna wait to see how the transfer is, but knowing alliance, odds are 70% their release will not be OAR to 30% that they'll do it correctly. but only time will tell.

Well, they're releasing Blade Trinity in its OAR of 2.35:1 so there is hope.

yeah but they already botched the original blade by releasing it in 1:78 which is not its OAR. so 1/3 isnt that good of a percentage.

any specs for Equilibrium yet? If the Japanese version is better, I'll pay for that, but if I can get equal quality from the Canadian release, all the better.

I heard from over at AVS Forums that the box on Equilibrium states 2.35:1 but the actual ratio is 1.78:1. He is going to run a comparison between the blu ray and the DVD and see what is up.

i was just going to post this finding... i saw the blu today when it arrived at my store and on the back it states 2:35:1 aspect ratio... (which is great news) but will hafta wait until someone actually watches it and reports their findings.... cuz i remember Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind and Blade Trinity being different than what the print said.... which is the one thing i think is unforgivable for studio's to do. put false information on their covers

+1 i already imported the UK version of this blu (as i figured knowing alliance) they would have the same 1:78 version the UK one has (just with the UK one i get a menu and some special features) but if its proper OAR ill trade my UK one and stick with the canadian release... time will tell.

Well, I hope the Alliance release has the correct aspect ratio, but I certainly wouldn't pin my hopes on it. If you really want the best presentation, you need to get the Japanese disc. If that's too rich for your blood, I'm starting to doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion, er, I mean Christian Bale, er I mean the Grammaton Clerics.

I've got the UK release, I couldn't pull the trigger on the $50 JPN release when you can get the other one for 9.95 Pounds or something from Amazon.UK

If the Cdn release has 2.35 I'll probably just buy it and keep both

Goodthing I waited on purchasing the blades individually, I'll just get the trilogy pack!

yeah but the CDN version only has Dolby Digital 5.1 thats it... so its no diff.

i couldnt put out $50USD on 1 blu (regardless of how good the movie is) just not worth it imo. i could buy 3/4 titles for that price. the UK one looks good and i'm happy with it. if alliance turns out to have correct OAR i'll switch up and keep the CDN one... i have a feeling thou its not and just one of those mis-printed covers which bug the crap outa me.

btw just putting out an update. so i officially got word from a buddy that watched the canadian release of equilibrium today and he has confirmed it ... even thou it states 2:35:1 on the cover.. the transfer is in fact 1:78:1

so much for that dream...
