I think it looks pretty good and I thought the AQ was pretty good on what I've got through so far. It is pretty grainy at times and does not have huge amounts of detail all the time but I guess either the film itself is like this or they didn't have access to original elements? I have never seen this in any other format so I have nothing to compare it to.
Well I finally finished watching Kagemusha. I can't believe I never spent the time to watch it in some form before. It is a really good movie!

I'm somewhat disappointed with the PQ and detail level. I really enjoyed the audio on it though. Maybe it is just me appreciating it more now that I have a quiet player and decent speakers but especially during the battle scenes I though it was great.

Any guesses? Lola Montès?

Remember that unless this is Blu-ray only, The Earrings of Madame de..., Le Plasir and La Ronde were out September 2008.

It's definitely Lola Montes. I can't wait! I've only seen a crappy DVD copy bootleg. It's an amazing film. Hopefully it's Blu Ray too (I'm assuming it will be since its visuals are gorgeous.

Reviews on the way.

Hey Pro-B,

Regarding Monterey Pop, what about the extras disc of the various outtakes and other performances that were on the third DVD originally? Are those included in HD on the Monterey Pop film disc or the Hendrix/Redding disc?

Hey Pro-B,

Will your review for Pierrot le fou be up soon? I can't wait for the blu.

Also, do you think you can post some pics of the cover art/inside and back art?

Hello,

The review will be up tomorrow night (Monday). I am sorry for the delay, I've been working on something else (not Keane).

CassavetesGodard: I would do my best to provide pictures as well (Welcome to the community )

Thank you so much. I have been on here reading ever since Criterion started Blu's. Just never posted. I was waiting for a review on Godard's film, that I had to ask.

Hope to stick around.

Don't know if this has been posted yet, and don't think they will make this set blu-ray, but still big news.

Here is the list for Akira Kurosawa's 25 film set by Criterion that will be released in Dec.

Films:
The Bad Sleep Well (1960)
Dodes’ka-den (1970)
Drunken Angel (1948)
The Hidden Fortress (1958)
High and Low (1963)
I Live in Fear (1955)
The Idiot (1951)
Ikiru (1952)
Kagemusha (1980)
The Lower Depths (1957)
Madadayo (1993)
The Men Who Tread on the Tiger’s Tail (1945)*
The Most Beautiful (1944)*
No Regrets for Our Youth (1946)
One Wonderful Sunday (1947)
Rashomon (1951)
Red Beard (1965)
Sanjuro (1962)
Sanshiro Sugata (1943)*
Sanshiro Sugata, Part II (1944)*
Scandal (1950)
Seven Samurai (1954)
Stray Dog (1949)
Throne of Blood (1957)
Yojimbo (1961)

I hope

The Men Who Tread on the Tiger’s Tail (1945)*
The Most Beautiful (1944)*
Sanshiro Sugata (1943)*
Sanshiro Sugata, Part II (1944)*

will be available separately, I already own ten of the other films so I won't be buying it. Too bad they lost the rights to Ran also that would have fit great.

I hope so too. I have never seen those 4 films, and would rather buy them separately.

I just wish they would start craking out more Kurosawa on Blu! And where is Fellini? They need to get at least one of his out! Nights of Cabria, La Strada, 8 1/2 or getting the rights to La Dolce Vita would be nice!

Yes, Fellini. I hope 8 1/2 will get one soon.

As a fan, I would love a John Cassavetes film on blu. Killing of a Chinese Bookie would prob look the best.

Gotta think those will end up in an Eclipse set at some point (sooner the better).

That would be great, like the early films of Bergman, Fuller, etc.
