Awesome news, but I am quite surprised there is no Blu-ray version. At the very least, they should have made it a dual-format release with both Blu-ray and 4K - especially at the price of the limited edition.

This makes me hesitate to pre-order it. I will probably wait instead and see whether we eventually will get an European release of it from someone.

They never released dual-format editions, even when other labels were bundling DVDs and Blu-rays together. Frankly, I always found that tactic wasteful and unnecessary. In Mondo’s case, I’d argue it would outright ruin the aesthetic of their designs — especially for their Limited Editions, where the second disc is usually a carefully curated soundtrack.

From my brief yet insightful experience working with boutique labels that focus on niche and obscure films, I can confidently say that what Mondo has been doing over the years is extremely costly to produce. I’m not sure what drives them, but their appreciation for Zulawski’s work is now unmistakably clear.

To give an example: if the exact same Limited Edition set was published in Japan — often the gold standard for quality and attention to detail — the retail price could easily surpass $150 in today’s market. If you've ever owned one of Mondo's Special Editions, you know that most labels would market such an edition as their top-tier release, typically alongside a more budget-friendly, bare-bones alternative. Mondo's Limited Editions however are on a different level entirely, but I would only recommend them if you're a die-hard Zulawski fan!

Just thinking about their last two releases, Blue Note and Possession, it’s clear that no other label would dare give Zulawski such lavish and respectful treatment — it simply doesn't make financial sense.

After a nine-year hiatus, I just hope Mondo can actually pull through the finish line and give us the remaining five Zulawski films (Third Part of the Night, The Devil, Boris Godounov, My Nights Are More Beautiful Than Your Days, and Fidelity) on either standard Blu-ray or UHD. These films deserve to be seen the way they were meant to be seen. The late Zulawski deserves it — and honestly, so do we.

Boris, Third Part, and The Devil all have Blu-rays, so I don't need those, but I agree about the others and the general sentiment of your post; I love my Mondo editions!

I prefer to have My Nights Are More Beautiful Than Your Days and Fidelity released before those three as well, but again, Mondo is a US-based label, and The Third Part of the Night, The Devil, and Boris have never been issued in any official format there. I guess we Europeans are a bit luckier at this point—which is strange, considering that the initial interest in Zulawski was sparked by Mondo back in 2007 when they released Public Woman, another one of his titles I hope they revisit.

I'm confused; On the Silver Globe Blu-ray has been out in Europe for some time now...

It first came out in a set and has since been given a standalone release
