I'm sure you could like make a video like that going the other way too.

Example:

[Show spoiler]Why does Ellie go to Salt Lake, learn exactly what happened to her, still need Joel to spell it out for, and be shocked when he does. Vs. figuring it all out on her own with intuition, and constructing a scenario where he can lie to her so again so she can confirm her suspicions.
The former you could argue is a dumbing down of the latter and one might see it that way if they watch the show and then play the game.

It's not trying to be a carbon copy of the game. Some things are improvements, some things aren't.

I think it's generally an improvement on the characterization of Ellie in the show vs the game. Not in the sense that I think Bella is a better actress, but in the sense that the game Ellie feels more like 29 than 19. Ellie is still a kid at 19. She's not an experienced soldier. She just recently started going on patrols, and learning how to fight. Her rage fuels her, but her inexperience absolutely is something that should be a problem for her.

That's why I also like the change to age up Abby. It gives her more experience as an offset to Ellie's lack of experience. Where in the game, the muscles were basically the main thing that made Abby a threat to Ellie. In the show, it's her age and experience. She's had military experience for at least 5 years, if not more with the Fireflies before that. I like that better than simply muscles vs skinny.

The character motivations are the same, but the capabilities are intentionally different, and I like the change.

Does this site no longer have the ability to get a notification when preorders go live? I want to preorder the UHD but it's not possible yet in the US so I'd like a notification for that.

Wow, I picked a great time to finally get a gaming console and The Last of Us Part I and Part II remastered, to start playing them for the first time. 'PlayStation Days of Play' just started today and they have the PS5 Pro for $50 off, the cheapest it's ever been at $649, plus Part I just dropped from $69.99 to $29.39! and Part II from $49.99 to $39.99. With tax and all, that's a $111.00 savings from yesterday's prices!

I almost bought the standard PS5, but after considering it for a day and then this discount popping up while I was deciding what to do, it seemed like divine providence, so I figured why not go with the PS5 Pro, and apparently both of these games are 'PS5 Pro Enhanced', which sounds promising from what I've read.

I know this is kind of off-topic for this thread, but I'm just so excited that I had to share! I've got the console mostly set up and ready to go, and the games are downloading now!

I've enjoyed Season 2 for the most part, the actress playing Abby does a better characterization of Abby than the game does, I can see audiences being more sympathetic to her than gamers did. I still prefer the games though, Ellie kills plenty of people, depending on how you play, so her being tougher is a given there.

Ellie in the game feels like a mature, traumatized young woman. She both witnessed and did some trully terrible things, we're not talking about a modern 19-year old girl, we're talking about someone who lives in a post-apocalyptic world. She's a survivor.

Ramsey's Ellie is dumb and infantile, as if the first season never happened, she even acts as if NOTHING happened most of the time and the writers bring back
[Show spoiler]Joel's death
only when they have to and even then they fail, making Dina looking like someone who cares more about the whole revenge thing.

Abby was an experienced soldier in the game, what the hell are you talking about?

That poster was super laughable.

Other thing that annoys me is that not only Ramsey still looks like a baby (look how she looks walking like a pathetic victim behind Jesse), but she constantly can't keep her back straight and Dever has the same problem. Please tell me I'm not the only one who noticed it.

Dina was assaulted by them and was also close to Joel so she should care a lot.

Wow, what a great way of saying that. Never thought it could be considered a Disney remake, but that makes total sense.

How many times did they mention what Joel did in SLC? Like, we got it. We know what he did. We're not that stupid. It was baffling how many times they needed to throw it in. Especially when Ellie tells Dina.

No, no 19 year old would act the way Ellie does in the game. Ashley's performance aged more like 15 years than 5 between the two games, even before Joel dies. I still like the game, but now that I've seen the show, I know the show feels a lot more believable. Show Ellie is still feeling the same things as game Ellie, but she isn't mature enough to let just anyone see what she's feeling. She has a mask where she hides behind jokes and an appearance that she's doing better than she is. That's what the whole scene with Gail was about, where she called Ellie a liar. Gail could sense Ellie's pain through her mask. I could too. Pay attention to the moments where she's on her own, or when she finally starts trusting people. Those are the moments you see the real Ellie. Those are the moments she feels like the same person as the game, personality wise.

However, in terms of practical experience, it makes WAY more sense for how the show did it than to make Ellie basically a Rambo like character. Ellie has only just started patrolling and has just started learning how to fight. Yes, she's good at some things, but she's not some one person army.

Quote:

She was but so was Ellie in the game, and that's a problem. That's why they focused so much on her strength instead, to give her a different edge over Ellie. This time they much more realistically didn't make Ellie a one person army, so they didn't need the muscles to offset that.

It's a work of fiction. Set in a post-apocalyptic world. And Ellie is not a regular teenager.

It makes sense to present Ellie as a moron and Dina as someone smart and capable, who actually knows how to survive in that world?

Of course, it makes perfect sense to butcher two main characters, not only one lol

Like I said: it's an awful adaptation, entirely missing the point of the original characters and story, but I'm happy for everyone who enjoys it. Fortunately none of the misguided efforst by Mazin can erase my memories of experiencing this story in its brilliant, original version.

This is easily one of the most critically successful adaptations of a video game, and it has done a lot for the genre.

I never said she was, but a teenager who went through a traumatic experience is still ultimately a teenager. In fact, if anything, that experience would have made her more guarded, not more open.

She isn't presented as anything like a moron

It's a good adaptation that perfectly represents the ideas of the original and improves on them in certain areas.

Eh... There really haven't been that many live adaptations (twisted metal, the horrible Netflix resident evil, and the paramount Halo show where he never wore his suit lol)... Fallout (which may change with season 2) is a way harder adaptation to nail than a linear non-sandbox game like Last of Us....

So given the current state of video game to tv show competition it isn't saying much to be top 1/2

Show Ellie masked a sadness. Thats her pain. Game Ellie was dark and was fueled by rage, which the show did not do a good job of portraying. The ways in which Joel's death impacted her are different. There's no denying that. She was hardened by that. She was always wrong but it was more beleivable that she'd be dead set on her revenge plan despite the odds against her in the game than here.

It felt like the writers wanted to give her a sympathetic edit on the show and I dont know why. For example wanting to save the Seraphite kid from the WLFs which would have stupid to intervene, not to mention it was a distraction from her current mission. IIve already mentioned similar sentiments with Mel's death. Its unfortunate that Ellie is being hated moe or Bella's acting and looks and not the character's action's which are less problematic here

Game Ellie says, "Joel did what he did to save me. I'm the one that you want."

In the show she says, "I didn't mean to hurt them."
There's no need for the self-aggrandizing!

Abby was in the room when Ellie said she was going to kill them all. The show seems to want Ellie to still be the innocent child from season 1. And it's delivered less like a calculated ploy and more like an excuse a child sputters out when caught doing something they knew was wrong. It's a full blown character assassination.

not having played or seen the game I understand why the game players would be disappointed where as I am happy with the show. Kinda like having read the book and then they make a movie that I feel is only okay and others love it.

This question may be a spoiler for the game, as I don't remember all these small details. Right now, I am in my first playthrough in 5 years, on the PS5 Pro. I'm in Ellie's day 2, right when she encounters the scars

It's a good choice in my opinion, the best way to play these two games. On the regular PS5, I always chose Quality Mode at 30fps. I can adapt to the frame rate, but the 60fps performance versions always looked as if I was playing a PS4 Pro game visually.

Now with the PS5 Pro, I leave it at the Pro mode, as it does PSSR upcalling and the output is very close to 4K and I can play PS5 games at 60fps now. I also bought the disc attatchment and black plates. The white plates of the PS5 was always an eye sore in my set up.

When you play Part 1, you will see why I was upset with the season as they only had 7 episodes to cram the entire first game. 2 of the 9 episodes were flashbacks that never moved the story forward. Season 1 needed two seasons or a 13 episode Season 1. I believe you will have a greater appreciation for the story once you play the game.
