Yeah, I wonder how bad it was and how much time it takes to deal with something like that properly.

I made the mistake of ordering from them with a debit card, so I had to go to the bank and replace the card. Next time I will be paying through Pay Pal instead for extra security.

Given they're a massive charity, distributor of National Lottery funds, government funded, and a business dealing with customer data on multiple fronts, this will be a paperwork nightmare. Odds are there are trustees wanting to know exactly what happened and how they are absolutely guaranteeing that it won't happen again. They're probably also asking how you guarantee that it can't happen to the cinema ticketing system, or their funding database, or to all the servesr handling all the movies. So even if they've rebuilt everything from the ground up and are ready to go they might have to wait for someone to sign it off, because the reputational damage of it happening once is bad, but twice is really, really bad. And as someone that has run a charity before I can say a single trustee with an issue they really care about but possibly don't really understand can make your life a bloody nightmare.

Its possible that they could have been hit by ransomware, if they did its not something that is usually stated publicly. In that case even if you pay the hackers youd have to essentially set everything up from the ground up again which does take time. If they got locked out off from important databases that would be impossible or very hard to replicate they probably paid the ransom but again, they would not advertise this fact. The plus side is that these ransomware groups are usually very professional and if you meet their demands they unlock your data and dont do anything shady afterwards.

They want to be paid and no one would if they failed to deliver on their end or screwed with their victim after the fact. In the one case Im familiar with they ware quick to answer any questions and helped to go step by step in unlocking the data. Great costumer support.

Ben Stoddart strongly hinted that the film Negatives (1968) will be getting a release in the near future.

The Severin Podcast episode from yesterday talked a bit about the Negatives negatives, but I didn't remember what they said.

I pre-ordered from Chalkys for a tiny bit less still. Got vol.1 from them with no issues.

I can't see that anyone else has flagged it here. HMV currently offering 50% off some BFI titles, with DEAL50 code:

Some of the Ingmar Bergman box sets are also included.

And Volume 3 of Play For Today, sadly not the one I wanted.

It's been running for a few weeks now. I ordered some, most of which have arrived, but I'm still waiting on Svankmayers Alice.

New announcements on Thursday and the teaser photo has been identified as Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre, presumably in 4K. Hopefully we get Aguirre, Wrath of God as well...

Not sure how Herzog's Nosferatu will look in 4k. I always thought it had a made for TV look about it. Still, so many iconic moments.

Add to that Fitzcarraldo. To me the best collaboration between Herzog and Kinski.

Ben Stoddard posted on FB that it's situation similar to the one with Kurosawa, where they have to wait for new 4K restorations to be finished before they can release any of them.

According to him, there are only two 4K restorations available at the moment, which would be Nosferatu and Aguirre, The Wrath of God (released by Shout! Factory).

Yes of course it is. I meant the feel. It didn't feel filmic on the BFI presentation I watched. It looked very clear like a TV presentation. A lot of 70s movies are like that. Oh never mind.

Nosferatu The Vampyre (1979)

4K UHD - Blu-ray

Quote:
Nosferatu the Vampyre (4K UHD)
Director: Werner Herzog

Reconnecting German cinema with its Weimer forebears via Murnau’s iconic Nosferatu (1922), Herzog’s vampire film references its predecessor but has a distinctive temperament. Dracula, played by the stunning Klaus Kinski, is modelled on the monster of the earlier film, yet his obsession with Isabelle Adjani’s character of Lucy Harker reveals a certain pathos, even as his army of rats wreck plague and delirium on a prosperous small town.

Herzog's images and Popul Vuh's music combine to create a darkly hypnotic and seductive experience.

Extras
  • 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible)
  • Feature-length audio commentary with Werner Herzog
  • On-set documentary (1979, 13 mins): promotional film featuring candid interviews with Werner Herzog and Klaus Kinski
  • Original theatrical trailer
  • Stills gallery
  • Original mono audio (German and English)
  • Alternative 5.1 Surround audio (German)
  • Other extras tbc

Aguirre, The Wrath of God (1972)

4K UHD - Blu-ray

Quote:
Aguirre, the Wrath of God (UHD)
Director: Werner Herzog

Shot entirely on location in the wild Amazonian jungle near Machu Picchu, Aguirre, the Wrath of God stars the legendarily volatile Klaus Kinski (Nosferatu the Vampyre) as Don Lope de Aguirre, a power-crazed sixteenth-century explorer who leads a troupe of conquistadors on a doomed expedition in search of El Dorado, the fabled 'City of Gold'.

A visceral, ambitious exploration of megalomania and savage beauty, Aguirre remains one of Herzog's most brilliant achievements and one of German cinema's totemic masterpieces. Available now on UHD, newly restored in 4K.

Extras
  • 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible)
  • Original mono audio (German and English)
  • Feature-length audio commentary with Werner Herzog for both Aguirre, the Wrath of God and Fata Morgana
  • The Unprecedented Defence of the Fortress Deutschkreuz (1967, 16 mins): symbolic drama about four young men hiding from an imagined enemy
  • Last Words (1968, 13 mins): short film about the last man to leave a former leper colony
  • Precautions Against Fanatics (1969, 11 mins): short satire about horse-racing enthusiasts
  • Fata Morgana (1971, 77 mins): hallucinatory film exploring mirages and the Mayan creation myth
  • Original theatrical trailer
  • Stills gallery
  • Alternative 5.1 Surround
