Very very simplistic answer: I’d say the 3D’s a bit better than Hobbs & Shaw’s, but the film’s worse. I thought that H&S was at least funnier, I felt more involved with its characters and it was more streamlined in its story-telling. (Having said that, I'm not sure that I'm in the target audience for either..!)

Really, though, I’d describe both of them as “Workmanlike” post conversions. The 3D is there, it’s inoffensive, sometimes quite nice - but its rarely, if ever, in any way special. I don’t think there are any “Wow!” moments in either movie, but Fast & Furious probably has the edge.

As usual though - and I think this may not be a popular opinion – action and 3D don’t make for good bed-fellows. Particularly modern action, with its kinetic camera movements and very fast edits: The 3D rarely has time to breath in either film but, again, I think F&F may have been a tiny bit better in that regard. It's also a better looking film, I think, in terms of being 3D friendly: I could be wrong, but it seemed brighter and more colourful.

I think the fight in the rain was H&S’s stand-out 3D moment, even if only very briefly. F&F’s best sequence, I thought, was the scene set in
[Show spoiler]space. Yes, for anyone not familiar with the film who was curious enough to reveal the spoiler there, a couple of the team go into space in this one. In a Pontiac Fiero. This takes the series’ levels of ridiculousness to new heights, literally.
I actually thought that the 3D in this sequence was better than in the excellent same-location film whose 3D is generally over-rated (in my opinion),
[Show spoiler]Gravity.

Anyway, as long as you’re not expecting demo-worthy 3D, F&F is certainly worth picking up - and it’s the only reason I’d ever be likely to revisit this film!
