PS3 and Profile 1.1

The criteria for Profile 1.1 is simply: a) secondary video decoding; b) secondary audio decoding; c) minimum 256MB persistent memory (the PS3 has 20GB at least.)

For Profile 2.0, it needs: a) network connectivity via an ethernet port at least; b) minimum 1GB persistent memory.

So for the PS3, all the firmware needs to do is enable the Cell to do secondary video and audio decoding and the PS3 becomes a Profile 2.0 BD player.
