UPS delivered the trophy prisms today. I will be using these for my DIY anamorphic lens. I was able to buy them from a fellow AVS member who used them for some two years and has new been able to upgrade to a Panamorph AL. At first I panicked because they looked in bad shape. But after I cleaned them, they look fine. Total cost was $125 for both and included a home-made enclosure and plexiglass attachments. The beauty of getting it from him is that he followed more or less the same approach that I had planned. Below are some pictures.
This is the general idea of what I planned on building: ![]() The prisms would be attached to plexiglass and screws as shown in the diagram: ![]() This is coming straight from the following link which is what I am using as my guidelines: http://www.zuggsoft.com/theater/prism.htm Here's one of the prisms and plexiglass. I received them unattached to the prisms but I realized that using double-sided tape instead of glue would actually work better because the tape will also cushion the prisms. ![]() Here's a pic of plexiglass attached to the prism with the double-sided tape. Sorry for the fuzzy picture (still learning how to take close-up pics) ![]() Here's how it looks assembled in the home-made enclosure I received. It is a temporary solution because I planned on using wood instead of mdf and also I planned on focusing on aesthetics more. ![]() I did some preliminary tests by simply holding the apparatus up to the projector. The prisms do exactly what they were supposed to do - They take the skinny image and expand it to fill the 2.35 screen. And more importantly the image is good! This thing weighs a ton, since each prism is a 5"x7" piece of glass, so I really need to build the manual sled to truly do the proper adjustments. So far, I am excited and think this will work out pretty good for me. More to come. ![]() Last edited by vega2K; 10-16-2009 at 01:38 PM. |

![]() I am crossing my fingers that the DIY AL will give me decent enough results so that I will be able to enjoy the 2.35 experience until an opportunity comes along on a brand name AL. ![]() |
