HALO 3 sales!

Im a PS3 fan, but i have to congratulations to Halo 3 for making 170 million in a day, thats better than any other entertainment product in the world for sales.

I had an XBOX 360 for almost a year. I bought one game Gears of War. I was planning on buying a second game Halo 3, but I realized that one game does not justify keeping a console so I sold the XBOX 360. I have no regrets. I will use the money towards another PS3 for my son's room.

170 million is very impressive. There must be a title which can counter this. Perhaps MGS4.

With Microsoft, I always have to wonder if that's based on copies in the hands of end users, or is that what they sold to retailers and renters.

Well, the sales numbers are based on couple of months of pre-orders, 1.7 million pre-oders.

Very impressive numbers, I believe it is a record, but it's not all sold in a day technically.

I bet you won't see this title in their "Platinum Hits" series anytime soon even though it has gone multi-platinum

Yes, it hit 1.7 million sales. How much did microsoft pay out in advertising? They put it out there on everything. And its not like its a revolutionary new game, its just the evolution of the series. The first one was cool and fresh when it came out. This one just looks like they fixed what people complained about from Halo 2 and polished it up a bit more.

I hate to say it, but it wont rival Halo 3 sales. God of War series is the only PS game that can match it, but not in sales, because more ppl know Halo than God of War

Im sorry to say it but MGS4 stands no chance to beat that record. Halo 3 topped Halo 2. MGS4 will do very well but I doubt places will 300+ preorders and 7-11's selling them.

I,, ME,, not you but ME thinks Halo 3 is a dull FPS with no narrative, while MGS is a cinematic TPS with a supreme story. In MGS and most RPGs you in fact have to THINK, but I presume most halo 3 players don't have that ability and favor a mind dead tale and just kill! Kill!. And about mS braggin about sales and stoop low by comparing the sales figures of a video to a movie or book is plain ludicrous. Why? Because a movie ticket prices are less. And if it actually DID come close to the sales of Halo 3 (Spider-Man 3 for example), that means MORE people bought tickets to Spider-Man than people who bought Halo 3. Let's do some simple mathematics

Movie Tickets priced at $10$. Halo 3 costs $60 (let's not work in all the other editions for a moment. This is a rough estimate). Spider-Man 3 made $151 million opening weekend. 151,000,000 divided by $10 (movie ticket cost per person) equals 15,100,000 people. Halo made $170 million in a day, and costs more, $60 dollars. $170,000,000 divided by $60 equals 2,833,333 (recurring because its a rough estimate). Factor in the other editions that were sold and it's even less. So as it stands, it may have grossed more money, but FAR less inhabitants were needed to buy a copy and have it's total gross to be more . If you don't believe this do the math for yourself, but this is pretty much factual if you do the work...

So anyone to disagree with "the facts" like I've been seeing happen so often in the comments is a blind, diehard, mainstream, stick their fingers in their ears fan boy that would rather believe their own lies rather than see the reality of the situation. Let’s wait and see when MSG4 is owned by over 11,000,000 people in the first day. Microsoft, 2 MILLION PEOPLE IS NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THE ENTERTAINMENT FIELD, OK

Metal Gear Solid 3 didnt even sell 4 million copys.

The game in Sonys book that can beat Halo is Gran Turismo 5. Nothing else will ever touch halo. i know it sucks but that game is golden $$

Halo 3 has a very well marketing boost, since beginning with the Xbox..

But i guess Metal Gear Solid is now on history level!

everybody knows the go(o)d game, combined with the AWESOME ( the best ) story ever.

It has become very popular over the years.

The game is famous, and has a very big potential to push the PS3 on top


( oh, and don´t forget the new Final Fantasy )

Wow - what is with all the hate? The only 'fact' here is that is sold more than any entertainment product in the world. You can try to come up with reasons why - but who cares? Beside, Halo3 can only be played by those with a 360, unlike Spidey where anyone can purchase a ticket.

The Halo games sell extremely well because it is a great game that is a blast to play. I understand it is not everyones cup of tea, but I know I am having a great time playing it.

There are a lot of games I don't like, but I don't get upset if they happen to sell a lot of copies.

I think you're analysis is flawed. It doesn't matter how many people, what matters is the revenue.

Besides have you considered the fact that halo 3 will give you a lot more hours of enjoyment than a 2 hour spiderman 3 movie? So now if you factor in the dollars/hour then halo comes out cheaper.

I also wonder how many people picked up the 360 because of this title. Revenue could be a lot more than 170m.

Only the first two weeks are reported, but sales did pick up, folks that don't have a 360 are getting ready for Halo 3 by buying their console early I would guess.
