Default Amazon's recent price churning

Okay Amazon is going crazy on price resets...most of the pricing is garbage 40%-ish discounts...although some of the newer stuff is decently discounted (as they are new releases)...most likely to match 1 or more retailers.

But it appears that Amazon is raising prices on many titles EN MASSE.

With online consumers using price tracking like crazy now...I'm unclear how this is a winning strategy. Strategic pricing won't work for smart shoppers who know what the discount percentages on certain title types and publishers.

Dunno...anyone have any thoughts on this?

Aside from the obvious price matching of retail sales, I do not think Amazon's pricing equation is clearly obvious. Most items seem to have a built-in "floor" they never go below, but it looks like pricing variation beyond that is driven by page hits or customer sales. Their "sale" prices are often higher than when an item is not clearly tagged as a sale.

40% off list price is garbage?

"Many" titles' prices are being raised? I don't see that either. Amazon is the cheapest BD seller there is and has been for quite some time. Overall, they're usually $5 lower than retailers. And they usually automatically pricematch the online competition if they notice a lower price advertised.
