Default Which sub is right for me?

I'm starting to plan out my dedicated theater room (I hope to have a thread going for it once we finally get completely moved in the new house), and I need some help on choosing the right sub.

The room size is 13' 8" wide by 25' long by 7' high. I suppose my budget is $800 since I was thinking of an eD A5-350. Is there anything I should consider besides that? Maybe there is a similar quality sub for cheaper even? Thanks everyone!

For just over $600, you can get the SVS PC12-NSD or the PB12-NSD shipped. SVS makes incredible subs, and their reputation and customer service are top notch. You could also look at Hsu, Outlaw, AV123 and perhaps Sunfire subs in that price range and find a really good sub too.

+1 for SVS. Great service and advice. Just email them with your questions about room size, matching components, etc. and they will be quick to reply.

The MFW-15 is an awesome sub. It seems they've got the amp issues ironed out so I recommend giving them a look. You can call and see what the shipping time would be like if you're interested. Even though I don't have one, I feel comfortable recommending SVS and HSU as well, based on reputation alone.

I've been on the forum for approx 2 weeks... and I've heard very little positive about ED subs. I've only heard they have good customer service..
everything else is negative.

I will say that I've heard an SVS sub in person... and it was the most
amazing HT experience I've ever had. I'll be getting their low end cylinder
sub as soon as escrow closes!!

I have a Hsu, and I recommend them. I love it and have been keeping an eye open for a second one on the cheap.

I have read the opposite. All indication is that they are very good subs.

I've seen a few isolated incidents of negative experiences with eD subs, but I would say about 99% of what I've read about them has been outstanding.

I agree.. I have the a2-300 and when I had some issues with my amp, they had a new one sent out to me which I received in about 3 days. I love my sub and the gave great customer service.

This is another brand I should have mentioned. I've never heard anything but good about them, and if I hadn't gotten my MFW-15, Epik would have been in some stiff competition with SVS and HSU.

6 months of annoyance = my ED a5-350. There is absolutely NO comparison between the two. Its kinda like having a ford mustang and upgrading to a ferrari. I paid 650 for the A5, @ that price it is a decent sub, but now they are asking 800, there is no way that sub is worth 800!!!!!I honestly would feel sorry for someone buying that sub for 800. The SVS PB-13 ultra is truly a work of art, you can take one look at it and know it is quality!!! I wish i would have saved a year ago and purchased this thing, like i said, it goes low and does so with authority, and it does it with ease. it actually scares me!!! Will have pics soon, i have been cranking and grinning ear to ear!!!

that's from Nathan28's "I ordered my PB-13 Ultra!!!" thread, post 30.

I knew I wasn't crazy, so I browsed around a little to see if I could find anything else.

Rattling sounds are from driver and doesn't seem to be from loose parts inside. Please advise.
Anyone else have rattling problems.

Again, I'm doing this for my brother since I'm the one that recommended it to him. It could be his settings are too high but I'm sure that he's lowered it and still getting the rattle. I don't want him to just lower it where he's not happy with the sound. It could be that this sub was just not enough for his taste. His room is not big but open, it's a 2nd story loft.

that's from the very ED sub thread, found it in 5 minutes.

That is nothing. Nathan is the only one who has had real issues (most likely because he was demanding too much from the subwoofer and has simply had bad luck). Those other people have already had their issues resolved very quickly and without hassle from eD's great customer service. I'm sorry, but for you to say there are too many things negative about eD to purchase from them is simply ridiculous. Everyone else who has purchased Elemental Design subwoofers (many hundreds of people by now) have not had issues.

I'm not buying from them because there are too many negative things about eD to purchase from them.

You may think that's riduclous. I disagree with you. Again, I spent 5 minutes searching and I can continue to produce more and more, if needed.

I have to agree with Driver King. I've been following eD threads here as well at AVS for quite a while, and the percentage of customers who have problems is almost nil. No company, no matter how good, can avoid having an occasional issue.

Please do actually. Find one person on these forums that has had an unresolved issue with their subwoofer. Even Nathan has resolved his issues, by the way. I'm not trying to argue with you but I have followed every subwoofer thread on Blu-ray.com and every post in the Elemental Designs subwoofer thread (same with other forums such as AVS Forums, Elemental Designs Forums, ICIX, ect.) and have yet to find an unresolved issue involving eD. There have been only five or so people who've had issues, which were all promptly resolved.
